Welcome to the site!!
I'd suggest get with a few local members who own Deuces and get the low-down on them 1st. Ask them questions of what to look for and what to avoid. See if they will take you for a ride and then allow you to drive it. That way you'll know you're comfortable handling one...
That's the thought behind the article - a disappointment when new, but a cult classic now.
It's from the April 2011 issue of Hemmings Classic Car magazine. They have added a few truck articles each month now and have covered MVs a few times before. I recommend the magazine if you like old...
Decided to try and fix the leaking transfer case today and I found a surprise in the process. The extension housing has a piece broken off and it has a crack too!! They are both where the two bolts go in at the top.
Wonder if it broke when the u-joints on the rear driveshaft failed...
I thought the noise was part of the appeal....:driver:
Actually it's not that noisy while driving to me.
Driving - the junk in the back is making a lot of noise:
At idle:
Test of the Bushwhacker Blazer
Perhaps the final number produced is different, but here is what they were saying back at the time the CUCVs were rolling off the lines.
First article from Four Wheeler, dated Feb 1984 says:
"The demand is continuing strongly - helped imeasurably by the Army's...
Not EVERY ONE, but yes most car related ones I keep. I have Road & Track going back 25 years. I also have lots of original car/truck sales brochures too - going back to the early 70s. You can always buy the brochures on ebay if you want to get them for the Chevy trucks. They're not that...
According to a Feb 1984 Four Wheeler magazine article, the U.S. Army orderred 53,248 Chevy trucks, which included 23,478 Blazers. Guess there were additional orders later on.
Got it running today and drove it around in the neighborhood...I really like it! Wish it was tagged so I could go for a longer drive!
Looks like it's dripping trans fluid from the rear seal on the t-case. That will have to be fixed next. Glen when is your next road trip to GA???rofl
Got the repaired driveshaft installed tonight - glad it's done! The driveshaft shop thought, as some here mentioned, that it was run dry and the u-joint failed. Anyway...if you need driveshaft work in the Atlanta area, I'd recommend Doraville Driveline & Springs. Thanks to those that suggested...
Thanks for doing this Carnac!

Perhaps a local newspaper or tv station would be willing to do a story about it? Maybe playing it so that it would be seen as the council is hurting those that support veterans by preserving their history. A "Big government gone crazy" story....?
I work for a local government, and from my...
Took the damaged yoke out, since the driveshaft shop said I should bring it in too. I barely put it back in the t-case for now. Hopefully next week I can get the driveshaft fixed and reinstalled.
Tried to lower the back seat, but it wouldn't fold forward. After many attempts I finally figured...
My take is along the same lines:
Deuces and other larger MVs are great - I really like them! But since I live in a subdivison a larger truck just aren't practical and isn't even allowed within my city zoning. They take up more space when I don't have that much as it is. I don't have a business...
I'll call them tomorrow, meant to do it today but stayed too busy at work. Need to check out battery chargers too.
Not being able to drive it around is already bugging me. :(
