FlyingVan,
Thanks.
VTwin,
FYI: She and her husband had purchased it in the 60's, then moved to Wis and titled it as a Collector in '79. In '09 they sold it to their daughter/son in law, who also registered it as a Collector. But in '10 they got it back. Shortly afterward, her husband passed...
I talked to Tom earlier this week, and he mentioned that they were not planning their summer party this year. :-(
Maybe we can schedule an alternate event, but it would likely be BYOT!
Vtwin,
Despite the silence, efforts are continuing.
On Tuesday, the Wis. Dept. of Admin. Div. of Hearings and Appeals (DHA) accepted another appeal against the WisDOT. This one is by an older lady who owns a '51 Willys Overland Jeep. She was denied Collector plates, because it was an...
As was mentioned previously, the recent Wisconsin HMV law is pretty restrictive in what you can do with your vehicles. But even worse, WisDOT is currently citing that law as authority to deny normal registration for ex-govt. surplus GM Blazers and Pickups.
So a law written to enable...
Contrary to what Paul in Janesville wrote previously, Wisconsin must take the prize for being the WORST MV state in the union.
Don't get me wrong, for the true "collector", the recent HMV law might work, but even Paul in Janesville is complaining about no utility uses. I sure hope they can get...
To All,
Thanks to everybody who submitted information!!
We got info from 30 U.S. states! The evidence is due today, and was mailed yesterday. The appeal hearing is scheduled for next Friday, the 20th. It will likely be another month before the judge's proposed decision is handed down. I'll...
Wanted: Contact Information for the Owner of:
Wis. License Plate Number FK 2643
I've run across this plate number in some recent dealings with our local DeeEmVee, which this owner will benefit from knowing about.
Please PM me.
To All,
These are great, exactly what I'm looking for. Please add your info, even if your state has already been mentioned. DMVs make mistakes too, so we want to show as many examples as possible.
This certification sticker is also something Wisconsin is relying on, but law does not support...
Woodsman,
That letter on that link was written by Tom Zat, of Alfa Heaven,, and it was delivered to WisDOT as part of his efforts to address the problem. Tom is involved in the current appeal, as the selling dealer. My request for out-of-state information is on his and the owner's behalf...
Thanks you guys, and please keep 'em coming. The more I get, the better.
Whitey,
Thanks for the reminder: Body Style is an issue too. Wisconsin wants to brand our titles with the Body Style "Military". WTFO?
Runk,
Thanks for the details.
This is the key, the owner must have a choice...
Does your state allow you to register your CUCV for normal use? Like with an Auto, Truck, or Collector plate?
Wisconsin has been giving us grief, trying to force CUCV owners to register for Parade/Display uses only. One owner has already filed an appeal to fight this. I'm helping her, by...
John,
I'm here to report that this affliction goes way beyond the "cheesehead" hats you write about. A friend of mine actually wore a pheasant on his head to some Packer games. The pheasant was dead, and somewhat hollowed out, but it was a pheasant nonetheless.
Any help with a possible...
Only one time that I recall. It took a tractor to pull us up out of the field. As a kid, it was pretty exciting! :jumpin:
Staff,
You bring up an interesting point. In our discussions with WisDOT, they've mentioned that when they get a title in from another state, part of their research has...

VTwin,
My Dad owned a black Corvair station-wagon, with red leather interior. Here in Wisconsin, that car had a curious habit. Due to a flat belly pan in the front and it's rear engine, when he'd hit a snowdrift, it would float up and over the snow. When that happened, the rear end of the...
Recent efforts here resulted in 2 laws being passed last year, and a defeat of Trans-123.
By way of retribution, WisDOT/DMV has instituted some new policies, to further harass owners of nonstandard vehicles, including ex-military vehicles (like higher registration rates, and not issuing...
Timothy,
I'd strongly recommend that you keep copies, and send your paperwork via certified mail, so you get proof that WisDOT got it. Yesterday, I spoke with a guy who sent his application in. 3 months later, he called to inquire. DMV told him they never got his paperwork. He explained...
Timothy,
The "best" way to register is depends on what you want to do with it.
If you intend to restore/preserve it to original military specifications, and operate it for display and/or parade functions, your cheapest bet is with the newer "HMV" plates. It qualifies for those.
If you...
