A public hearing was held by the Assembly Transportation Committee today to hear comments about SB-392/AB404 (Sen. Erpenbach's bill).
Rep. Pope-Roberts introduced amendment #1, to narrow the scope of the bill to Pinzgauers only. The #2 amendment, to also include Kayser M715 Jeeps was not...
Hi Guys,
Short post here, as I've got too much to do right now. (Sorry, I'll get more when I can)
The comment that nobody else was asking for more was made by Sen. Holperin. Jeff and I were both there.
Sen. Holperin had been asking the DOT attorney (Nilsen) how the DOT could compromise and...
Vtwin,
Here's an exerpt from his email to me:
I gave they the SF-97 form and a Florida vehicle title reassignment supplement
I agree with you, that vehicles bought w/o an SF97 are not intended to be licensed. His Blazer was sold with it, and therefore I think it was intended by the US govt. to...
VTwin,
Out of curiousity, where did you hear this info? I last spoke with Dale at Alpha Heaven, and she told me that they were not able to get their Blazers registered in Wis.
In the meeting w/ Sen. Holperin, DOT Atty. Nilsen clearly stated that he was told to oppose any registration of...
The executive session of the Senate Trans. Comm. was held today. Both milveh bills passed the Senate committee. Two amendments were made to the Erpenbach bill, one of which I had expected.
As I wrote earlier:
"SB-392 will be amended so as to effect Pinzgauers only. It is not supported by the...
4x4 routes seem endangered in many areas. We're all supposed to buy Toyota Prius's or something.
In upper Michigan, some Natl. Forests areas are completely off-limits, as the perimeter has been sold as private land.
Here in Wisconsin, well... fat lady sings fat lady sings fat lady sings...
An update on the two bills' progress:
A meeting was held at the State Capitol today by the Senate Trans. Comm. Chair, Sen. Holperin.
The bottom line is that both bills will likely advance toward Sen. Trans. Comm. votes.
SB-404 (this is AB-592) appears to be likely unchanged. It is...
I'll try this again. I lost my reply once. :?
Mckeeranger,
Yes, modified vehicles are not included in this. From my knowledge of Wis law, such a vehicle would be considered a "street modified" vehicle, and should be covered by existing statutes. Such a vehicle is required to be so...
USAFSS & Stumps,
You guys are correct, and that's something I've been concerned about since day 1.
I've got a Farm plate on my deuce, and yeah, those are all threatened. You'd think I was the only guy in Wisconsin who doesn't have a Collector plate on my truck.
I tried to raise awareness up...
98HD,
I'm pretty sure you're refering to my (nearly) last comment. FWIW, I regret having included it. Here's the background:
Going into the meeting, it was unclear who would speak in what order. I was not anticipating speaking first, but my Sen.'s office requested it. My comments had been...
Jumpin' in here briefly. Jeff, I trust you'll add in again if you feel differently than I.
While Jeff's been coming at this primarily from a "Collector" standpoint, and I've been more concerned about the "utility use" standpoint, we are in agreement that the goals are to better protect the...
Poof,
It was a pleasure to meet up. Yeah, what you asked about insurance!!
To All,
I think the meeting went fairly well, on our side. I'll leave the reporting to others. Have at 'er. It's fun to read.
I expect that I will be kept somewhat informed by my Senator's office, as things...
John Boy,
A State Patrol Sgt. from the DeForest office refused to even inspect my Pinzgauer...
If DOT doesn't want you to get an inspection, you won't get one.
JP,
Sorry, but I'm west of town. I hope you make it in.
VTwin,
Got any numbers on those bills. We should probably be looking into...
Hi Guys,
Just checking in here.
Paul,
Yes, this is at the Capitol. Not positive which room, but just ask.
Dave,
Yeah, "Parade-Only" use seems excessively limiting. I think we understand the concerns over Strykers or M-1's travelling down 18-151, but come on!
6x6Guy,
Your comments, etc...
There will be a Public hearing Jan. 20th, 2010 to discuss both bills before the Senate:
This is Zigmunt's (DOT's) Bill:
Senate Bill 404 has been scheduled for a public hearing by Committee on Transportation, Tourism, Forestry, and Natural Resources in the Senate. Date/time: January 20, 2010...
Okay, to clarify, yes, you fellows are correct that the military version of the Blazer reportedly has a 17 digit VIN. An owner told me that the fifth digit is a "D" if it's military, instead of a "K".
I'll admit that this is an area which I'm not too familiar with (the Blazers and pickups)...
Correct, the label would be applied to the body of the vehicle, typically at the door frame. It signifies that the vehicle complied with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) in effect for the year of manufacture.
Vehicles which comply with FMVSS will also have a 17-digit VIN number.
Alfa reported trouble selling the smaller trucks and blazers. Oshkosh is having trouble with larger trucks.
I assume that what you're refering to as "standard civilian version" are the Chevy pickup and Blazer models made for military use. To my knowledge, these do not have either civilian...
Update:
My meeting with Rep. Steinbrink is scheduled for next week.
VTwin,
If you want an answer from the DOT, contact the DOT attorney who's been a part of this from the git-go: Paul Nilsen. But I no longer trust anything he says. You can draw your own conclusions if you deal with him.
In...
