I posted a pic of the bearing caps and the factory markings in the first post that was made about this same subject in a different thread. On the right side of the case, cover sealing surface, you can see a sidways Y. The same Y is stamped into the bearing caps for that side. The other side...
I just pulled the chunk, ring gear and carrier, out of my dana 60. It was a pain in the butt. The only way we were able to get it out was with a long prybar and a block of wood. reinstall required a big soft face hammer and some beating. here is how we did it.
If the open side of the...
I have been having problems seeing my instrument panel forever. I located this post while searching and took the advice from PANAMA and decided to disasemble my cluster, clean, polish and paint. WOW what a difference. Now I can see the spedo and fuel gauge great. All of my lights work as...
Ok, thanks for the info and the links to the pics, they are now saved on my computer. Should this bare wire have any voltage present? I have never seen my water in fuel light come on and I just put a brand new bulb in it. I am just trying to make sure it works. I will do a little searching...
Today I removed my breather housing and ran some new vacuum lines. Behind the breather housing I found a red or pink wire that comes out of the large wire loom from both directions. The wire goes into a black plastic connector. This is the strange part, the black plastic connector has a bare...
The bed near the back of the drivers side tire had a small crack in it and would flap back and forth going down the road. I welded up the crack and primed and painted, all better now.
A second pair of hands really helped me a lot. I would also replace one at a time or lay them out in order so you remember which one is the front and the back. Mine needed a very small amount of tweaking to get them off the body.
ODdave is correct about the stamped caps. Once I found the markings there was no messing them up as long as you place the cap the same way as the letter is stamped into the cap and housing. Mine was a royal pain in the rear to get in. A case spreader would have helped a lot. The fact that...
My knuckles looked like your did when I did my king pins a month ago. I used a wire wheel on a grinder and they came out pretty good, primed painted and now it looks almost new. I had the same problem with the lower dust cap and race. I used a really big punch and a big hammer and it made small...

I bought mine from offroad design, 66.00 per side with everything. My lower bearings were toast, full of grime and rusted. It steers a lot better now and feel a lot more solid that before. I am not saying it is a fix all but it helped mine out. The hardest part is getting out the king pins...
I just did this to my dana 60. I removed the carrier, and staggered the axle so the side I was cleaning was lower that the other side. I sprayed a degreaser into the tube from the inside while my dad used a toilet brush to scrub the inside of the tubes. We got a lot of the crud out but not...

My M1008 has play in both the front and rear driveshaft. If it is sitting on jack stands I can twist the shafts back and forth a bit. I would say anywhere from 1/16 to 1/8 of a turn. I do not see this as a problem, just normal wear in the gears, transmission and stretching of the transfer case...
The best way to answer the question is to pull the cover and take a look. I just did and my M1008 has the Detroit locker. It was time to change the diff oil anyway and now I know for sure.
It looks really good, please update us all on how well it stays in place. Also does this stuff dry hard or is it more like a rubber feel with some give to it.
