How reliable can I expect a "new" 2012 MTV to be? What locking diff options exist?

Letting the batteries run dry should be a red flag. You can get solar battery tenders and leaving a vehicle on a tender or starting it once a month is required to make sure you don't get a bunch of internal rust. 6TAGM Batteries are over $400 retail so it pays to keep them tended.

How reliable can I expect a "new" 2012 MTV to be? What locking diff options exist?

We just bought a m1078. It has cat and Allison parts. After your conversion most of the military parts will be stripped. At that point it's just a heavy diesel truck. As far as reliability big commercial trucks are designed to fail slowly and gracefully. Everything is bigger and redundant. As...

Engine Mounts - Rigid - Why?

I'll do some research to see if a hydraulic mount could be put in that place.

Horse power for different engines without hard upgrades.

At this point I will just take this discussion elsewhere. It sound like even if it was simple and proven that you can get more power safely out of the power plant without damaging anything else in the system or shortening it's lifespan you would all say it's impossible or risky or too costly to...

Horse power for different engines without hard upgrades.

At this point I'm trying to get the basic specs of the OEM original turbo. Does anyone know the intake/exhaust impeller sizes or the max boost?

It's in the last post but here is a link to one. https://propelparts.us/caterpillar-3116-turbocharger-1005865.html?gclid=Cj0KCQiAlpDQBRDmARIsAAW6-DOAtD6mDzvT9Qsz8Lmc1ub1CjUnjZAEt1A4C4Vy4N-7IdWEBG-dyeAaAs8sEALw_wcB

Horse power for different engines without hard upgrades.

Reworked I share your concern about modifying a great design which could make things less reliable or damage the vehicle. Just for reference Cat has an updated turbo for the 3116 and 3126 1005865. For the other point I'm wondering if it would be worth the effort to retrofit the electronically...

    300 hp CAT 3116

I really like the compound (dual) turbo idea. I've heard that twin scroll turbos can also be tuned to perform similar to twin turbo setup. Also a VNT turbo can also do that. It's very obvious to me that turbo technology has really improved since 1992 when they made this engine. For certain the...

    300 hp CAT 3116

As far as I can tell the transmissions are the same model in the various power levels of the 3116 3116e 3126. Can anyone confirm if there is any difference in the trans? As far as sync the fuel rack. What I have read is the rack is synced injector to injector and then it all connects to the...

Horse power for different engines without hard upgrades.

This is probably the best HP thread on the 3116 I have found. Thanks for the contributions. Superman had great advice about basic stuff I need to do before even going to the Cat mechanic. Thanks. On to my question. I know that performance in diesel is really closely tied to how early in the...

taming the beast - making it more liveable

I have used the HVLP guns and airbrushes from harbor freight. They work great and are cheap enough to dispose of once used. The trick with sprayers is to have an ultrasonic tank for cleaning the tips or make sure you clean the gun before whatever you are painting dries. This usually means...

Engine Mounts - Rigid - Why?

I was able to find the part number for it: 12414590 or 26112 It looks like a block of rubber with a bolt in it. I wonder if we could retrofit a hydraulic mount in for more noise reduction.

Engine Mounts - Rigid - Why?

I must be wrong. I'll go inspect my truck in person. Did you replace the mounts at the time of engine replacement?
