What RPM are you idling at? Sounds weird but my truck did that when it was idling too fast and I set the timing at the faster speed.
Try slowing it down and then set the timing. The TM says idle is supposed to be 375 rpm.
Looks like we have enough interest in some of these. I will start figuring out material cost, etc. One thing I don't know is if stainless will react negatively with the aluminum housing these power pistons thread into. I don't think it will be an issue, but I want to research it a little more. I...
I am still fighting mine a little. All of them were rebuilt again last July and only one of the 6 wheels is still leaking. I blocked off the brake line going to that wheel until I can have a chance to tear it open again. Work and other things have not let me do the things I want to do lately. A...

I have been thinking about machining some power pistons for the G749 airpak that are the same size as the 5 ton power pistons so that we can use the 5 ton airpak rebuild kit. Is there any interest from any of you in having one of these?
The 5 ton power piston appears to me that it is made out...
Yes, the plan is to use a tow bar to pull it. I'm worried a rope or chain would break when I do the shift. Hopefully this doesn't destroy the transmission, but I have 2 other transmissions in my parts trucks, so will see if this is really effective.
Things have been busy around here and I have forgotten to post progress on this truck.
A local starter shop rebuilt two of my starters. On February 11, one was installed and the truck fired right up and runs great. I do have video of it coming to life and will post it soon. The reduction unit...
Nice score on the parts! Those are the 1-1/4 wheel cylinders. They look exactly like what came off my truck.
Is the piston that the wheel cylinder cup goes on two pieces like the one on the right?
Very true. I have experienced the same thing. A guy I know that drove these in the Army in the 1950's told me this as well. Of course after I needed the tip.
