I just got mine insured with State Farm. They didn't give me any issues, other than not having any idea what it was. It looks like they wrote up a "custom" policy because it wasn't recognized in the database. Gave me a pretty good rate too.
Gunboy, I believe you are correct about it having a shelter in the bed at some point. The bed is rusted and you can see a grid pattern in the rust where the floor joists of the shelter were, along with a rust strip on the bed rails that is consistent with a shelter having been there. There's...
Well after 6 long weeks waiting for the paperwork to get done, I finally got to pick up my 71 Kaiser M35A2. It shows 46,936 on the odometer and 197 hours on the hourmeter. Obviously this can't can't be right, as the truck would have to have gone 237mph for every hour it was run. I'm guessing the...
Yeah, looks like we're both in the same boat. I'm going to register with a Class B plate, and then deal with the hassle of getting it swapped over to a former military vehicle registration so I can keep driving it legally while waiting for the paperwork.
According to the title, it's a 1971 Kaiser M35A2. If all goes as planned, I will be picking it up this Saturday. I'm so stoked. The VIN has an 80 at the end, but there is a 71 as the 7th and 8th character of the VIN, so I guess that's the year spot on my VIN. I still haven't visited the truck...
Ditto. I also heard that state inspection stickers aren't required, but I also have not found any documentation supporting that. This is the only thing I've found so far on inspection rules, and it does not have any exclusions listed for Military Vehicles:
LSP - Safety Info - Motor Vehicle...
On my deuce, it has what seems to be an official stack extension on it. It has the flared flanges and everything. I don't know if it's the taller stack or the hard top cab, but I can talk to someone else in the cab with a low yell. Stack does seem kinda out of place though being so tall. I'd...
Does a shift knob exist that has the correct deuce shift pattern printed on it? Call me a bore, but I'd love to get a knob that's similar to the original knob with the shift pattern on it.
It's something to do with your web browser. I use IE8 both at home and at work. At home, pages load near instantly, and at work, it takes 50+ seconds to load the exact same pages on SS. Not sure why, and I haven't really investigated what causes it.
Cool. I'll take a hairdryer (or maybe a heat gun??) to it to get most of the sticker off, then follow up with some goof off. Should I use something like a single edged razor blade to grab the edges to start pulling it up, or would some other tool do the job better?
Hopefully in the next week or so I'll be getting my first deuce. Paint on it's good, except either DRMO or GL put a sticker on the doors. I hate dealing with paint and bodywork, how in the world do I remove this sticker without doing damage to the paint? The stickers on the doors seem to be a...
Why don't you just get the dual alternator bracket from tm america, a couple cheap delco alternators to fit it, and a 12v battery. For right around $200 total you can have seemingly unlimited amounts of power in both 24v and 12v.
I didn't think about the radiator being in the way. I don't have my deuce yet, but I thought the crank of the motor hung low enough that it was below the radiator. Hopefully the starter will never fail on me, because I will definitely need a push/pull start, or build a field expediant hill...
I was suggesting using a rachet to avoid the compression recoil and to allow to get the handle off once the engine started. I remember reading that ferro was being really careful when rotating the engine to change belts because he was afraid it'd start, so I figured it would be possible to...
I keep reading that the multifuels in deuces bump start super-easy with the slightest provocation. This led me to wonder, did the military ever create a manual hand-crank starting kit for the multifuels? Seems like you could take something like a 3/4 drive rachet or the like with a long handle...
Just checking trev... ;)
nofearnohope, do you have any supporting documentation for saying scouts can ride in the bed for a parade? As far as I understand, the policy is very black and white about riding outside of the cab of a vehicle.
