This is not exactly a true statement. The 24 volt starter system is a good system except you cannot buy the starter in a local parts store. When you do the gp bypass you have already done half of the Roscommon 12 volt Conversion.
Since your truck is already converted you can buy all the parts...
You better take a look at your flexplate too. You already know what happened. He was trying to get it going and your starter wore out. If you take the time to get the parts mentioned above and make sure your flexplate is OK or change it if worn, you should not have any trouble for a long time.

I know belts have been discussed many times. I was changing my belts today and found out the power steering pump and PS Alt use the same belts as the K30 pickup.
For me that was Gates High Performance 5725 for the PS Alt and Gates 7455 for the power steering. Same as the civvy truck.

I went on the interstate today and up airport hill today to go to FedEx. 4 cylinders have a problem on that hill. I was accelerating the whole time and hit 65 mph easily. Nothing blew up or fell off my M1008. I was smiling too thinking about this thread!

I've been doing that for a few year now with no problems. The maintenance on my M1008 is good and I don't plan to stop. Lately 60 seems a good speed. I even get to pass sometimes.
I went for more hitch than I will ever need. I've seen some messed up stuff being towed down the interstate and I don't want to be responsible for a mishap.
