Agree with everything you said. I got confused when you said "I did stick the thick stack of spacers in there". I knew that would bring flange out too far. You are creating excellent documentation for future rebuilders.

Zout, I have really enjoyed following your restoration. I hope you leave it up as a guide for future WC restorers years from now, when we can no longer personally guide them, as Golden Eagle has done with his restorations.

Z - Remember those, locking ring wheels are over 1/2 century old, and you do not know their history. Not as bad as split rims, but- If you don't have access to at least a good tire cage- reconsider.

PB - my thought was to enter it into shows and donate the prize money to the hospice or other veteran causes. You know I believe Vietnam vets got shafted, and do what I can to help.

PB - all I can say is you are one lucky ****. You are getting a concours restoration. From what I have seen, if you enter this in any shows, it is a sure first prize winner. Z does some of the finest work I have seen. Started with a butchered and possibly sabotaged pile of bear excrement...

How about cutting thru the tire and as much bead as you can in several places with a sawzall? Once it is opened up a bit, careful work with a sharp cold chisel on the remaining bead- as close as you dare to the rim.

Hi, Zout - post 278 - what did you use to repair the backing plate, and how did you make lips to match?
