If you buy one of the HF clamp meters get the one that has a peak hold on it. It's only a few bucks more than the cheapest one. Also be aware they read a few amps low.
Not sure if it relates but I have soldered large 2/0 cable into battery cable ends and it worked great. The terminals I used for my backhoe were tinned brass and made for soldering. I just stuck the stripped cable into the terminal, heated the terminal with a propane torch, and fed solder in...
Actually the voltage reading on the green generator meter is a few volts low but the HZ is accurate. That was mainly what I needed that meter for since my frequency gauge didn't work. Both the voltage and amperage readings appear to be accurate on the two line load meters so I just add the two...
I was also guilty of starting my 803 without reading the instructions well. I had read a lot of threads and even called myself reading the manual before I bought it but total brain fart set in when it got to my house. Like the OP it didn't take long before I realized you had to hold it to start...
Which side is the driver's side? Are these generators left hand drive or right hand drive? Or did they switch depending on which country they were exported to?
For those willing to settle for an alternative that may be available at your local parts store you can use Gates Safety Stripe II 1/8"/3.2mm ID fuel hose. I purchased mine at O'Reilly Auto Parts for $1.39 per foot and it has performed without fail so far. O'Reilly's part number is 27000.
For...
I see yours just has a little window air unit on it. Most of the ones I see have two boxes mounted on the rear. Would those typically have a generator and AC or what?
Galvanized hardware cloth is a good material for covering holes to prevent rodents form entering. It's available in 1/2" almost anywhere and can be ordered with 1/4" holes off that auction site. I had to put it around the duct shielding for my home AC unit after having a rat get in that space...
They don't charge back without giving the seller a chance to resolve issues but they get involved and if the seller doesn't respond in the time designated they charge it back to them and refund your money. If I remember correctly the time they allow is only 10 days so it's not a drug out process.
I put mothballs in mine but I have recently developed doubt in their effectiveness. Haven't seen any evidence of mice where I put them but tried to get an armadillo to leave from under my shed with them and it didn't go. Have had several people tell me mothballs had no effect on mice.
Have had...
Also sounds like a good case for using the Paypal option when paying. That is how i paid for mine. My generator purchase went okay but I have had to get Paypal to step in on a couple of transactions and they will charge back for you.
You may be correct. I would change oil and filter again to be on the safe side.
I don't think it has any low level sensors. Just low oil pressure and high temperature protection. Mine was empty so I had to fill everything. The new stant cap I installed kept leaking a little but finally stopped...
The one I pulled out of my 803 works but it's cruddy looking and not accurate. If that unit were mine I would open it up and see if it has a loose connection somewhere. Use a pin punch to tap the threaded retaining ring around and it will come apart.
Unfortunately my supplier only has 5% bio-diesel. I would prefer straight up diesel but I'm not sure if it's available. The nearest station that sells off road diesel has 15%. I read somewhere you can't actually get less than 5% anywhere. Not sure about that unless they don't have to put it on...
My drums are metal and I have them sitting straight up on some patio pavers. These were once used oil drums so they were like new with some motor oil residue in them. I painted them to blend with the sand color of my generator.
Condensation is a real problem so I intend to keep check for it...
I use two 55 gallon drums. I have a small diesel tractor and a 15,000 lb backhoe so I plan to use the fuel from the drums in those and replenish the drums as needed. The only problem is you always have one tank or drum that isn't full. Just as I periodically exercise and test my generator I...
