    Insurance What To Do

Progressive won't cover a vehicle with a military VIN, even my CUCV, even under their commercial arm, or at least that's what they told me. I tried to explain that if I painted it a color other than camo, you'd be hard pressed to quickly identify it as a military vehicle, but that's the way the...

    Blazer Problems

RE: Re: Blazer Problems I'm having a similar issue, mine will also sometimes start and then die. I know my fast idle switch is busted, and I'm going to be troubleshooting the glow plugs as well.

    Air compressor and inverter

The only thing that always makes me nervous about those tanks is that they usually don't have a drain to get the water out of them. The two solutions are to either buy a tank that can be drained, or just replace it every 3-5 years, before that thin-wall sheetmetal has a chance to rust out. Not...

    Air compressor and inverter

I would (in fact, I'm going to) just wire in a 2000 watt continuous or so inverter and get a small "hotdog" or "pancake" style air compressor. That'll give me all the air I want roadside, and be useful for a lot of other things, too.

    Very cool, thanks.

    Engine Questions

Ok, I'm going to be changing the balancer, and I see that it requires 200 ft-lbs. I also see that it's typical to jam the flywheel with a pry bar or whatever to achieve that amount of torque, a couple of questions: 1. How accurate does the 200 ft-lbs have to be? It's near the end of the scale...

I've got them as .pdfs on my computer. ;)

Nobody around here has the manual in stock, I've been reading through the Army's manuals, though. Honestly I rarely actually follow a manual anymore when tearing into things, never really needed one, except to figure out if/when special tools are needed or whatever.

    Engine Questions

I think my harmonic balancer is wobbling a wee bit, are there any tricks I need to know in order to change it? Any special tools needed? I've never dealt with one before.

I could go for that info, too, in fact, it'd make a great addition to the FAQ.

    Engine Questions

The intercooler will give you more throttled volume and thus worse throttle response, but depending on the size of the turbo and the turbo's characteristics, it may or may not be a bigger issue. How hot the air gets is less a function of the pressure being run than the insulating characteristics...

    Engine Questions

So are the cracking issues overblown? Same with the harmonic balancer issues?

    Engine Questions

See, that's the thing, some people tell me that the 6.2 will be fine, just boost it and call it a day. Others tell me it's junk and I should just replace it with a 6.5. I was just wondering if there was any sort of "final verdict" that had been reached, but the more I read the more I think that...

    Engine Questions

That's the thing, a new damper is $60-$100, I got no problem just throwing a new one on if it would be a wise idea. I did some searching, but I've found some conflicting info both here and on FullSizeChevy.com, so I figured I should ask to get the current thinking. I know from other forums...

    Engine Questions

I don't have a whole lot of experience with these engines, so I have a couple of basic n00b type questions. First, what type of lifespan can be expected from the engine before needing a rebuild? I know that common problem areas involve the harmonic balancer coming apart, and I also heard...

    Anyone near Laurel DE?

I'm in Newark, not all that far away, if the other poster doesn't work out, let me know.

    New guy from DE

Hopefully I'll get everything right in this post! I bought an M1008 a couple weeks ago as a workhorse truck, and it hasn't let me down. There are a few things here and there that I'd like to do with it, but now I'm tempted to track down a Deuce or, better yet, DUKW. Here are some photos...
