gear oil
Smell and feel, you will know the difference. Hubs seals are easy to change once you have every thing apart. You have two rubber flex hoses to the rear axle. One is the brake line the other is part of the vent system for the rear axle. Make sure the vent system is not clogged, common...
What was your GMC originally, M215 dumper or M221 truck tractor? The sheet metal looks straight and clean, nice project. Your leaking rear is either a bad wheel cylinder or leaking hub seal.
Avgas
Avgas is expensive and available at any local airport. I may have a line on purchasing avgas that has been pumped out of airplanes for maintenance. Once the fuel has been removed form the air craft it can not be reused for aviation.
One large MV collector I know has stopped using...
Shipping
Of the three GL vehicles I have purchased, all three needed prep before driving them home. All were within three hrs of home and while waiting for my EUC to clear I made trips to prep the vehicles. When all was good with the EUC, I dropped in my batteries and drove them home. Each trip...
fuel
I have been running regular gas through my M215 GMC 302 for almost 10 years with no problems. I do use a lead additive in the fuel. Biggest problem I have is how fast today's cheap gas goes bad, maybe 2 months. My M221 GMC would not even start this year because the cheap gas clogged up the...
The A26, B25 and P38 have to be some of the coolest war birds ever. I have only seen the A26 & P38 in museums, but love the sound of those big radials on the B25 in person.
Thanks for posting pictures.
I have used Rapco's paint for years. Yes the spray cans can be tough to deal with some times. Usually I'll shake them for a long time before using, 15 minutes. After using, I soak the spray nozzles in a jar of thinner. So if a new one clogs up, I just grab another and keep going. Good quality...
M2 halftrack
That is a great starting point, is it a White or Autocar? Are you going to restore it as a M2 or M2A1? I wash ours started out as complete as yours.
Keep up the progress.
Halftrack
Hey Dirt71,

Let me know if I can be of assistance.

projects
I figure there is still about 2 years of work yet to be completed on the halftrack, is something like this really ever done? Currently I have the GMC M221 truck / tractor and two M151s waiting next for attention.
Transporting the halftrack to and from the show drew tons of looks...
This past weekend was the mostly complete M2A1 halftracks first outing. The Orange Co. Va. Somerset Steam and Gas show has everything from steam traction to antique tractors and vehicles. This year there were 8 MVs present including our Halftrack and M813A1.
M813
I have used 2 car batteries in our M813 for years. The original cold start unit was non-operational and was replaced with a block heater. For stuations when cold starting without a place to plug the block heater in I also installed an ether start kit.
jhooah,
My plan is to arrive early Saturday 9/17 with the M813 to pick up poor tripod. Do you know if Jeff will be available with his wrecker?
Thanks, Karl
pressure bleeder
I ended up making a pressure bleeder out of some 4" PVC pipe with caps at each end. One end has a air connection and the other has a feed hose with a valve. The end of the hose is connected to an extra master cylinder filler cap, so it threads and seals directly to the master...
