To simply the mechanical lift pump install, I used a tubing cutter to take 3" out of the hard line and used 3/8 rubber fuel line, double clamped on each side. Sped up the installation process. I have since moved on to an electric lift pump which I prefer.
Db electric is the company that convinced me to stick with the old gm dd starters, the last time I ordered one of theirs 1 bolt hole was so far off I had to drill it out about 1/16 " just to get both bolts started at one time.
Before you install new ip I would drop the tank and clean, flush fuel lines, install new fuel filter. Make sure that you don't have something in the tank killing your fuel system.

I do not advise hitting your starter with a hammer, if you have gotten to that point it's time to replace ASAP. I did it just to keep my dd on the road til my new starter showed up. My 1009 is my one and only means of transportation so some times I cut corners to keep it on the road. I have not...
