Well researched and repaired, I chose to install manual glow plug switch, eliminating that sensor and the glow plug card altogether. Just my preference.
If roads are snow and ice covered I lock in the front hubs and put in 4wd high and drive 55-60 mph, no problem, my truck is a 86 1009 with 4.56 gears front and rear. I am on my 3rd winter with this truck, no problem. In 4wd low I would limit the speed dramatically.
I recently upgraded my fuel system also,do yourself a favor and install a fuel pump wiring harness with a relay. I used wix 33270 for pre pump filter and I have a wix 33005 spin on under the hood.Love the 31 gallon tank gives me a 450 mile fuel up.
Since the 2 rear cylinders are the hot spots in the coolant system would it be beneficial to run a rear cylinder head bypass system right in to the heater core input? A few years ago I had read somewhere about the rear cylinder head bypass system and I found the threaded plates that bolt on the...
Advanced ip timing and installed bilstein front shocks then got rained out. Article blast should be here tomorrow afternoon. Glad I got something done. Artic Blast ! !
Was 50 out today, advanced ip timing 1/16 , cold weather gonna be here this weekend so I can judge if cold starts are any better. Still no black smoke .
My 5 year old edelbrock shocks finally died suddenly with the cold weather, figured I'd upgrade to bilstein shocks. Summit had the best price, but autozone actually matches prices.Saved me 60$ on a set of two for fronts. Now I have to get financially creative so I can order the rears as I am...
Thanks the 190 thermostat works as it should,I just need to advance the timing a bit. The motor has 400 psi + per cylinder, new fuel system tank to injectors, new glowplugs,.
Even under load I only get to 160,if ambient temperature is below 50 out. With the Jatonka grill cover on. If above 50 outside and with Jatonka cover on I can get to 190 and see thermostat open and close with the temperature gauge. My 1009 has 4.56 gears and 33 tires and I drive it at 65mph all...
My 1009 used to snarl to life in 3-5 seconds with out the block heater until I installed rebuilt ip,I installed straight up with timing marks, I will be advancing ip timing this week. It also will not warm up beyond 150 even after idling for an hour or more.
With my first 1009 back in 2012 I also ran through the 24V cheap gear reduction starters.I assumed since I also installed optima red tops my batteries were great, they were not. I never checked voltage. After 4 starters in a few years I started checking battery volts, they were so low I'm...
I picked up a heavy duty cabinet style lock with 5/8 mounting depth and 3 different lock arms, gonna mount top center of fuel door. Won't be theft proof but theft resistant.
After 50k happy miles on my 86 1009 with 456 gears someone dumped something in my fuel tank, ruined my injectors and ip ,I replaced tank with a 31 gal tank, electric pump, new fuel line, new injectors, new ip,new glowplugs, new starter. And working on a fuel door lock.
