You can surely find a better deal somewhere.
A quick search of Milwaukee craigslist, I found:
-A pair of M1008 axles for $800 and a pair of Dana 60/70 axles from a M715 (5.87 gear ratio  ) for $800.
-A set of 1985 3/4 ton axles for $500.
-As well as a whole 1981 3/4 GMC pickup w/o...
Not all 5.7 diesels are DX blocks. The early D-blocks (78-80) weren't, and they had a lot of the problems associated with the 5.7 diesels. The DX blocks are better quality though.
The DX blocks were introduced in 1981, they had 3" main bearings and roller cams/lifters. By 1983/84 the 5.7...
Yeah, they basically used the general small block B.O.P. design, used higher nickle content casting, and added extra block strength, stronger rotating assembly, and different heads. You can convert the 350 diesels back to a really strong gas 350.
As for the shop/mechanic... I'd high tail it out...
I wasn't impressed with cherrybomb glasspacks on my 1008. They don't take out enough of the high-pitch tones. Too snappy and crackly. I took them off and went straight pipes out the back, then sold it. 6.2's get really loud when they rev higher.
On my 1009 I'm thinking about getting a 3" single...
You can buy the whole mirror in black from LMC truck for $20/each. Part# 38-5828 and 38-5829.
Or Napa might have them, they sometimes carry some old GM mirrors/window cranks/door handles etc. in the store.
Nah it's cool. [thumbzup]
I'm thinking ultimately I'd like to get a single-plane intake manifold and just use one hose between the CDR and the manifold. Plus I've heard the single plane manifolds flow a little better. And last I looked on ebay there were almost a dozen Humvee surplus intakes for...
^^Not to be a spelling/grammar Nazi, but I'm not entirely sure what you just said.
I just cleaned the rubber elbows, and electrical taped them until I can figure out something more permanent and reliable.
Yeah, I figured I wouldn't use both a bedliner and the roofing insulator. Just one or the other, in addition to the sound deadening paint (it's smooth paint, not grippy like bedliner).
The floor liner that's in the truck right now is in good shape, but it ends right after the front seats, so...
I think the urban MARPAT is ugly IMO. You might as well just paint the truck dark grey. Or paint it with some of that grey "stone-texture" spray paint.
A large pattern woodland MARPAT would look awesome on a CUCV.
Anyone have any problems with the hardware store/roofing stuff peeling back, smelling bad, or oozing thick asphalt goo when it gets hot?
I'm sure it's made to withstand a decent amount of heat, it's made to go on the hottest part of your house after all.
I plan on ripping apart the interior...
^^Ditto. What Warthog said. Doing the resistor bypass is super easy! There was a post last week talking about the resistor bypass, and it had several links to other threads talking about it, and some pictures.
That's all fine and dandy, but they don't actually carry that part anymore.
After emailing them back and forth for a week, they don't have it because the part was discontinued my GM. So I'm in the same situation I was last week.
Well, anyone else who has this problem is totally screwed. They...
Yeah that could be just about anything. Injectors being worn out or something with the Injection Pump are likely causes. However, could just be that the injection timing is incorrect. Or could be that it's sucking air into the system somewhere. Are there any leaks?
As for the GEN light not...
Oops. Typo.
Of course, it wouldn't be a CUCV without fuel problems.
I'm dealing with trying to find some very illusive 135° angled tubes for the CDR system...I also need to figure out why the odometer doesn't work and the speedometer bounces all over (hopefully just a speedo...
