$300+s&h for a set of four, or just for one rim?
$300 for a set would be a good price. I'd think most steel wheels in 16" or 16.5" sizes would be between $75-110 each.
You will almost certainly have to buy rims new in order to get 16.5's with a 6 bolt pattern.
16.5" rims only came stock on...
alfaheaven (.com) makes steel 16.5" rims in 6-bolt and 5-bolt configurations.
My M1009 had steel Kelsey Hayes 16.5" rims with 36" Humvee tires on it when I bought it. But according to the previous owner; the Marines modified it and put them on, and they were on it when he got it from a gov...
I think I remember someone saying they stuck a little piece of bicycle intertube inisde around the shaft and tightened it. I need to take mine apart and tighten them too. Some thread sealer might help the screws from loosening.
Try searching for it, if my mind serves me, they had a few pictures...
Holy crap. You're going to scare him off.
Don't get freaked out, essentially you are just buying a truck. And unless you plan to do anything sketchy with it you'll be fine.
Look in the Milwaukee and Madison craigslists. I saw a couple M1008's on there. I also remember there being a place that sold military vehicles north of Chicago, but I can't remember the name.
Might as well go with the higher pressure. Better to have and not need, than need and not have. You want a good flow of fuel to the injector pump. You definitely wont hurt anything by having 10-15psi.
I have the airtex in my M1009. Got it from SummitRacing for around $50. It has worked well so...
Just for someting different? What are your motives/reasoning for wanting rockwells on a 1028? M1028's aleady have the sought after and proven D60 w/limited slip and 14bolt w/ locker combo.
If you plan on doing a bunch of modifications to make a serious offroader, rockwells are perfect. But if...
Oh gotcha. I think it was just poor wording in the O.P's post. I think he meant he had to do a resistor bypass today because the resistor fried yesterday.
It's receiving direct 12v power. The resistor (big black metal thing on the firewall) drops the power from 24 to 12v before going to the glow plug relay. It's a good mod to do to prevent the glow plugs from burning out and swelling.
Exactly.
Othrwise, it sounds like a pretty good deal. Is there rust or other noticable damage?
If you go check it out, try and make sure it's a cold start. Watch for any kind of excessive smoke on start up or under load. The cooling systems can be one area of concern. People tend to not take...
I have BFG 35x12.5R15 on stock Chevy 6 bolts (with a small lift). As far as mounting 12.50's on the rim I think you'd be ok. But as was said before, there might be a little rubbing depending on how worn your front springs are.
However, most tires aren't truely 33" or 35" or 12.5" wide (and I've...
The old Ford non-turbo 6.9L and 7.3L diesels are better as far as speed and power (even over the 6.5 turbo), but 6.2's have better fuel economy.
They both use very similar fuel injection components (some parts are even the same) and a similar glow plug system.
The 6.9/7.3 might be a little...
I have heard the gov-locks make a prety loud clunk when it engages. Not a lot of clanking and stuff like that. Look on youtube, a lot of people put videos of noises on there. That might help you figure out whether it's a normal clunk or time for a new axle.
Weird that it even has the 5.7L in it at all. Especially considering they made the K1500 pickups and Suburbans both with the 6.5L and the government generally prefers diesels. But then again, the Air Force seems to buy vehicles to the beat of a different drum.
But looks like a really nice truck!
I'm trying to figure out how you'd do it. First, do you even have a turbo? Second, 6.2/6.5's have the turbo running off one exhaust manifold and the downpipe and the non-turbo side join together after the turbo.
So then I'm not sure what you'd do with the other side of the exhaust...
In...
You can find the CDR valves on ebay, and other websites. But you will never find any of the hoses that go from the CDR valve to the intake. Better hope those aren't cracked or broken. Mine are currently sealed with electrical tape
I replaced the worn-out, dented, steering stabilizer with a Skyjacker 7055 stabilizer. It works great. The steering feels much better now. I wanted to get a dual inline stabilizer kit, but I didn't want to spend the extra $100.
I also replaced my speedometer and fuel gauge with ones from...
Holy crap! Fitting 39" tires on a stock 1008 will take a lot more than just trimming fenders. They will rub on d*mn near everything without a lift. Otherwise the only way I can see them fitting is maybe a front zero-rate/leveling kit, a whooolllle lot of trimming, wheels with a lot of custom...
The measurements are approximate. I rounded them off to the nearest inch on the short side. (ie- If the actual measurement was 35-5/8 inches i rounded it to 35"). Hope it helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.
