To fix a leaky gasket on the engine, the cab must be lifted off the truck. It took about six hours to disconnect everything, including winch controls, electrical, air and fuel lines and linkages plus the extras added by yours truly.
Not sure how I would have done it without the HIAB, but the...
Took the 757 on the trails I prepared today and snapped a few pictures.
I swear it's more responsive without the muffler and the sound is just awesome.
When I find someone with a video camera, I'll make a short video...promise...
What's available in "junked" snow chains for this size tire? Would like to modify them for use on my 8x8. The side and cross chains are the same gauge, if that word applies, just different lengths...
Added a fuel flow indicator to monitor fuel consumption of the 4a084 engine.
Works out to just under 1.5 GPH on the average (a 15% correction factor is needed for this specific meter, calibrated for H2O)...
Anyone in steelsoldierland has any info on chargers operated off 120/240vac (60Hz) or 28 volts DC? Military surplus, that is, to charge several batteries at a time off the vehicle.
Even references to TMs would be appreciated.
Anybody got a source for the larger size aluminum markers/tag for fuel lines, wire bundles etc?
Picture shows the "wanted" size in comparison with the one available from Saturn, typically.
TIA
Looking for actual "in service" hook-up pictures when in use by the military.
Image below shows my solution. Because of the location of my genset up high on the truck bed, a hole below the terminals works nicely to feed the heavy cable to them. Cover temporarily removed.
There was a time way back, when I made data tags "in the basement" by exposing and etching anodized aluminum sheets. Typically I used .02 thickness, anodized black, which came presensitized in light tight packaging. I think a company called Kepro supplied them, but they are no longer in...
Last year I made and installed a magnetic fuel filter to help prevent damage to polished metal to metal seals on the lds465-2 engine.
After only a few hours of operating the engine and mostly at idle/low rpms some metal dust is trapped by the filter.
(Just an update, couldn't find my original...
Question, would a "new" carb from Saturn or other dealers be considered fresh or will they need to be rebuilt?
Can't find rebuild kits anywhere and may have to save up for a new carb....
TIA
I'm not a tire expert and it seems difficult to find answers to some questions no matter how hard I go ogling. Here is one question;
When a tire is mounted on a wheel that is too narrow, what is the seating angle of the bead? Would it not be tilted outwardly? Could it "slip off" the edge of the...
Done a bit of searching, but can't find anything on the effect of a front tire blow-out on an 8x8 compared to the, possibly, disastrous effect of a blown front tire on a single front axle truck.
Has the Army done any studies on this (HEMTT, for example)?
My own limited experience comes from the...
Because of the mounting of the MEP018 on the 8x8, I have modified the exhaust/muffler so that it exits over the side of the truck. An unfortunate consequence of this is that the air intake temp is now 150°F on an average.
The intake will have to be routed to another area away from the muffler...
Starting to clean up the 10kw genset and could use some parts. The "Current Selector" switch is most acute, but is there a "parts" MEP018A out there for general cannibalization (found nothing in the classifieds)? The tubular frame is badly bent on mine as well.
The original setup uses a single 4HN 24-volt battery and the "hold down" bracket is made for it.
Found two 12-volt batts and the keeper is perfect for one, but it looks like two would see some interference in the center.
I'm just using some heavy duty ties for now and will have to fab a dual...
So, how do you do your non skid walk-on surfaces?
Figure it is a 3-step procedure and primed and sprinkled it with sand first. Will remove loose sand and prime again before finally painting it.
Had this gauge installed on the deuce and now get similar results on the 8x8 multifuel.
The pressure drop across the two filters and the oil cooler (no port to access between them on the -2 engine) pops up to about 6 psi at first and drops to about 3 psi after five minutes at idle.
This info...
Did a bad thing, left a bucket of used antifreeze uncovered and lost two of our hens as a result.:-(
They have a regular source for drinking water, but must have reached up and sipped some of the antifreeze, which I had temporarily placed below the bumper of the M43.
The chickens had first...
