The image below shows a plunger portion of the shut-off valve for the SW fuel burning heater. The rubber/plastic "plug" has been seated against the valve opening for twenty some years and now has an imprint, which causes the valve not to seat correctly at all times, it may or may not leak...
Does any of you have examples of signs or decals on any vehicle related to smoking and the charging of lead acid batteries?
As you know, these batteries may expel hydrogen gas when overcharged and cigarettes or open fires may present a hazard.
Example of commercial caution plate in image below.
For some reason doghead decided to delete the original thread started by panzerjunky this morning.
Anyway, I'll start it over with a note I wanted to add (along with the images that were rather interesting).
The add-on track goes back to a 1955 TM, the TM 9-1870-1.
Occasionally I find images of the xm757 8x8 from the time it was used and "discover" new details. The stencil work on the fuel tank is one such thing, but I can't make out all the words, can any of you give me examples of warnings/caution markings used on fuel tanks, so that I can get a "best...
It's been about ten years since we had a foot of snow here, so I just to get the 8x8 into it.
Aired down all tires to 10 psi and the low profile NDCCs now leave a good 16" wide track in the snow.
The truck had no problems on level ground and also made it up a 14% incline.
Obviously 8 or 10...
My son's '53 M37 came in handy yesterday when we got some locust firewood out of the woods. It just started snowing and the fresh snow on top of the leaves made it a bit slick at times, especially on the 30% grades, but the truck performed well as usual and got the job done.
More PS magazine stuff.
These links will help the search function on the forum since it doesn't search the PS Magazine section;

Added a few more pages on winching operations, this from a 1954 PS magazine to put you in tune with our vintage vehicles.

Added another album to the PS Magazine section, the M123 TM206 series trucks for the ten ton fans here....

Looking for a take-off air control valve at a reasonable cost, also if someone has a 60 psi oil pressure gauge with "15" and "45" psi tick marks labeled on the gauge (MS24541-2).
TIA
Added a bunch of PS mag notes this morning pertaining to the M939/M925 series trucks:

Remember that the PS magazines have their own search function and is recommended since many articles occur throughout the main album in a "mixed" fashion and may...
This image is from the M915 operator's TM...I'm interested in installing a similar foot pedal (item #2) in my 8x8, which has mounting holes for an additional pedal, but it was never used by the military and not covered in the TM's.
So, I'd appreciate some info, is it electric or pneumatic? How...
I'm showing a simplified fuel calibration procedure here. In earlier posts I have had the fuel control valve removed for calibration, which may not always be so easy.
Attach an extension to the outlet of the control valve (instead of the connection to the combustion chamber), which you will run...
A Saturday and Sunday some time within the next 3 or 4 weeks, date to be set when we have good weather forecast, since it will be an outdoor affair.
This was briefly discussed in the chat room several weeks ago and first suggested by Cabell.
I can accommodate six or so people, even overnight if...
Over the last few years, I have spent a lot of time on the fuel burning heater and have come to consider it fairly safe to operate, in particular with diesel fuel.
My 8x8 was never equipped with any other type of heater, so there wasn't much of a decision here.
Any malfunction that I have run...
The Stewart Warner heater uses a series of resistors with positive temperature coefficients to regulate the voltage to the igniter and fan motor. Higher voltage results in higher temperature (higher power dissipation) and higher voltage drop. The Benmar heater, which I'm "playing" with on the...
Having taken apart a number of the SW heaters (the Benmar heaters don't use a wick), I have found that the wick has either been burnt to a crisp or been very sooty. The wick is vital to the operation of the heater, it brings the fuel into the vaporizer and I suspect that the kind of fuel used...
