While that is true, the sudden change coupled with the audible change in the tick is the reason I'm concerned. I know this engine shouldn't be ticking like that, it's just not the kind of ticking a healthy engine makes

Well now I'm getting concerned again. Took it for another drive today. Had a little over 60 pounds oil press idling while it warmed up, stayed up there for most of the drive for what I could tell. Got back, poking around while it idled, and the tick sounds louder now. Still nothing too telling...

I just had the injectors rebuilt and brand new nozzles installed, just out them in a few days ago. I think they should be fine

Valves are still in spec. Ran engine with valve cover off, felt each rocker, no notable locks or odd feelings. Pushed a piece of wood onto the end of each rocker while running, no difference in sound.

That was my plan, in the process of pulling he valve cover right now. I adjusted them when I put it together but it's very possible I forgot one or that they settled in and need to be checked. So far my luck has been pretty mediocre so I'm hoping for once it's something easy
