    Manual glow plug setup

I heard the controller cards go out and then I guess you're screwed. Is there a more reliable card out there to replace it with? I personally was planning on keeping mine the stock setup, but understood the card to be a factor in reliability.

Want to see pics of gov. locker in CUCV's

Really? Wow, good to know. I thought the M1008's came with 4.56 gears and 31x10.50's though, and I knew those were super slow moving and low top speed, so I thought the 4.10's was being conservative. So using the traditional method of how I've done my past truck gear changes... 33" - 31" =...

LOL... Guess it's not as mainstream a term as I thought. :-D

Want to see pics of gov. locker in CUCV's

I'm about to be running 33x12.50's on my 1009 with the stock 3.08 10-bolts. Eventually if I don't blow it up, and because I know I'll never realistically swap entirely new axles into the thing, I'll just get new 4.10 gears eventually and an auburn or detroit or something more stout while I'm...

    The M1009's at auction

I spent more on mine than anyone would dare around here, $3K from a Craigslist ad, but I'm not a haggler, the guy was great and is somewhere on here and answered my questions even after I bought it, and it was in the best shape of a CUCV I've seen. No rust, fresh paint inside and out, no dents...

Help... can't figure out fuel gauge light replacement

Ah ha... success! I didn't have to remove the whole white cluster piece at all like I was thinking. Just remove the plastic dash bezel, then the socket screws around the big metal gauge bezel and clear lens which covers the gauges, then remove the clear plastic lens, then remove the black...

Help... can't figure out fuel gauge light replacement

I've got my dash apart as much as I see how and still can't figure out how to get to the fuel/speedometer bulbs. My speedometer light works but my fuel light doesn't. I've taken it apart as much as I see how and I'm stuck. I unscrewed 4 or 5 philips screws around the white cluster thing and it...

Pics of my 1009... to keep or not to keep

Utiliatiran purpose... technically just a little more ground clearance so I don't scrape in ditches like now, but I think the 31's look small on there. 33's would be just right, 35's would be better but I could live with 33's. When I bought the truck my intention was always to lift it and do...

Pics of my 1009... to keep or not to keep

I'm not worried about the lift as I can do that for cheap but fills on here got me scared that the 10-bolt axles are going to snap like toothpicks as soon as I try and yank someone out of the mud as that and light farm use is mainly what I use it for. :/

Pics of my 1009... to keep or not to keep

Thought I'd post some pics of my CUCV. Been great, nothing has broken at all but I had a small valve cover and coolant leak which I got fixed. So far in the last month of owning I've: -Replaced starter (just in case, with a DB Electrical gear reduction one) -Replaced radiator (with a brand new...

Can someone explain this to me about diff/axle strength...

So I've read 50 million threads on here about recommended tire sizes and the axle strength, etc. General concensus seems to be 33x12.50 is max recommended for M1009. However, what is the weak point of a diff when they talk about this? Is it actually going to snap and break, or is it the...

Which gauges are supposed to light up?

My speedometer and voltmeter light up but not the fuel gauge. Is that correct or is fuel supposed to light up as well? Reason I ask is I jumped in it tonight and thougth my fuel gauge was lighted before but I could be wrong. Where should I start? Are there little bulbs under there that go out...

Interesting disaster experience in my M1009

I had a similar experience in a big cummins diesel truck after Katrina. Total devastation on the beach and nothing but humvees really but I guess my truck looked like an aid vehicle because they let us by. With that said, as long as you aren't saying you are official and willing to help if...

    differential gaskets

Ditto... I used the red sealant stuff which worked fine. No gasket needed. Buy at Autozone, apply to diff and cover surrounding the holes completely, let sit for a few minutes, then put the cover on and tighten down letting the red sealant ooze out. Black is better to use though as it looks...

What's the advantage of 24volt system?

What is the advantage of having a 24-volt starter? Was this done just to be compatible with other military vehicles, or is there an increased reliability in having 2 batteries? I'm not an electrical guru, but seems like having a 12-volt starter with 2 batteries in parrallel would be better...

How to make new cucv reliable?

Well so far adding to my "done" list is: -replaced underdash relay with HD one -replaced starter with gear reduction one & bracket -Fixed slight valve cover leak -Fixed small radiator crack -Replaced radiator hoses/clamps

    M1009 speedometer bounce

LOL... and don't forget your username is a little person with hairy feet who secretly had a crush on his gardener.

    M1009 speedometer bounce

I read the TM's about replacing speedometer cable, adapter, and gear, but do I need to replace all of that, or is there a more common issue I should start with? My speedo just bounces all over the place on like a 15mph gap... so like between 40 and 55 that speedo is just going all over the...

Anyone have pictures of Rapco (or similar) black?

I'm torn on where to go with my M1009. It has a new paint job by the PO. Looked great until I took it out in the rain, and now camo pattern lines are starting to show through in places. The misses wants it all black, hates the OD. I would rather have black but leary on what it'd look like as a...
