Can someone tell me what the little 2" long by about 1" wide cylinder mounted under dash beneath steering wheel is for? It has a couple wires going to it.
Thank you.
Credit goes to doghead for his instructions in thread "underdash starter relay" and the wiring picture as well.
This modification replaces the standard GM underdash starter relay, GM Part# 15591718 (which is prone to sticking), with a higher rated 200amp relay from Napa.
1. Buy Napa part#...

Got mine the other day in the mail... super fast and packed great! Thank you! Will be putting a new one on this weekend... just in case. Then will keep the old one and still have a few to last me. :-D
Trying to check fluids in differentials. Front was easy, but what is the square tool to open the rear diff fluid filler?
It's a square thing... is it just a standard ratchet or a certain square socket size or something?
Didn't want to try with wrong thing too much and strip it.
Thank you...
Just bought one from dbelectrical on ebay as well... they have a 99.9% approval rating, they're in my state, and they shipped it within 24 hours of me buying it and sent me a tracking #.
Awesome info, thanks! Do I need to remove anything to get to the starter or can I just crawl right up under there and wiggle myself in?
What do you mean shearing the bolts off when starting? You mean starting the engine as in the starter could wiggle loose and messup the gearing connection...
Got a new gear reduction starter on the way... what do I need to know about installing one? Is it a simple take-off, bolt-on replacement? I read something about shimming, what is that?
My current cucv has the original giant canister starter. Do I need a bracket or anything for the new one? If...
You're driving a deuce daily? I can't imagine... that's hardcore right there.
Yea, I'd say I'm getting about 18mpg in mine but I don't do long hauls in it.
Just curious if anyone has replaced the big-rig steering? It's huge to me... my old Bronco had like a 14" wheel I believe which was much easier to maneuver with.
Any pics or recommendations?
I was just curious, but yea... I'll leave it as-is. :-D
Anyone use the 24volt terminals in the back by the rear passenger seat? Can that be easily converted to 12volts for accessories?
doghead's my hero. That writeup is so good you should probably put it in its own thread.
How is the relay working so far by the way?
This is on my to-do list for this weekend.
