My M1008 was running a little peaked in the last snow storm while running in 4wd, I'm pretty sure its the fuel filter, yours sounds to have the same symptoms.
I have used both, the crows foot on the rear ones is easier iirc, be careful not to turn the metal line when loosening the connection to the injector, you could split it. Sometimes the injector might want to turn also so be prepared to watch for that.

Ditto! The weakest link is the relay under the dash, it is advised to do the Doghead starter relay mod. This mod will eliminate a potential future failure which will cost big bucks to fix and several hours. The rest of the system will work as designed if maintained periodically.
