The vehicle was decommissioned after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack in Iraq that made the vehicle inoperable. A group of Airmen assigned to the 1 Special Operations Logistics Readiness Squadron donated more than 1,000 hours of their free time to rebuild the vehicle for display.
I just spoke with Bob McBride, the organizer of the 2007 event. He will let us have our own area to camp, an area to have vehicles on display and even a place to do trail runs. Last year, over 2400 spectators attended the event and they expect more this year. If there is enough interest, I'll...
Anyone interested in meeting in Cheyenne Wells, CO for the "2007 Machine Gun Shoot & Military Vehicle Display" on May 4, 5 and 6?

Re: RE: New Tire Setup on Deuce
They look better facing the same direction, but if you look at a M35A3 - all of the tires are mounted the same on the wheel. The tires on the right have tread in one direction and the tires on the left in the other.
August or September would be best for me, but I'll support any date. I'd bring 2 trucks, so we may be able to total over 25 and have the place to ourselves.
Bjorn,
Thanks for the good words, many of your write-ups have been used on my truck. I've always thought your cranetruck was the most "practical" truck around.
Wade,
Any chance you heard anything back on the inspection of these?
I went back to the Item Manifest and it shows 20ea 11.00-20s and 10ea 14.5R20s. There are 20 Michelins in the picture, and this was the only lot of 14.5R20s at the site. If the Manifest is right...there's enough for 1...
GL has 30 Michelin 14.5R20s at Red River Army Depot, TX. They look to have decent tread left, but they only posted one pic on the site. Maybe a group buy?
Ethan,
I really thought about running 46" (385 95R20) tires, then changed to the 44" (14.5R20) for these reasons:
1. The Deuce lacks power already - the larger the tire, the greater the additional power loss. Running 44" tires seemed to be a good balance.
2. Limited upward suspension travel...
Yes...If mounted on an A3 wheel. The backspace on a USA6x6 wheel is not enough to allow the tire to bolt-up without hitting the tire-jack handle.
It is a tight fit with an A3 wheel, the tire diameter just makes it.
I plan to put mine in the bed like they are in the 5-tons.
The A3 wheels were installed on a M109 I bought on GL.
With the front and forward/rear axle disconnected I saw about a 1 mpg increase during highway driving. I average 9.4 with the '82 but the IP is turned up on that truck. I have gotten 12.2 with my '66 disconnected and no load, but it has a...
Pete,
I agree with your math - 9 inch backspace will align the front tires with the fender and will leave you about 4 inches from the edge of the bed in the rear. I originally thought I'd get excessive splash-back from the tires extending past the fender, (it's terrible with my Wrangler) but has...
