Wow this makes me feel old. This was the front line fighter when I was at Korat RTAFB! Hearing that they're going to start using F-16s as drones makes me feel even older. They weren't even in service when I was in the USAF!
You're probably better off without that old 318. It's probably a PolySphere engine. If so it's heavy and not very powerful. A "modern" 318/340/360 Wedge motor from about 1967 on up should bolt right up to the same bell housing and they're GREAT engines! They even make a V-10 version of the 318...
The thing that you have to keep in mind about USMC markings is that the corp only requires that the vehicles be marked "USMC" and the registration number on each side of the hood and nothing more. All other markings are at the discretion of the theatre commander, base commander, unit commander...
I second using a LH drill bit. I've found that just drilling bolts with LH drill will make 80+% back out and you'd have to drill a hole anyway to use an EasyOut. LH drill bits are HARD to find but well worth the effort!
Last week I bought a very complete, very original 1953 M38A1 (USMC). Bubba never got his hands on this one and it still has nearly all of the military bits and pieces on it. While cleaning it up I noticed that the cotter pins holding the shackle pins on the front bumper were pretty beat up so I...
Take a look at this thread http://www.willysmjeeps.com/v2/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=4236. He shows the original paperwork from when his 1953 M38A1 was returned in 1965 to be modified. On it they show the costs as $8700! I don't know that was original 1953 costs or 1965...
I have a local ACE hardware that carries a huge selection of fasteners and related items. Yesterday I found that they carry new, (cadnium plated?) brass colored bolts. I bought two 3/8" x 1" hex heads and they're grade 8 and not the soft crap that HD and others carry. Find a large ACE and...
I wonder why they didn't design these to use a starter cartridge like those used in some aircraft engines? Good scene of them starting an engine with one in the original 1965 version of 'Flight of Phoenix' with Jimmy Stewart.
You missed a good show! Not many MVs there other than Jeeps but lots of good weapons and equipment displays. Loads of German reenactors this year and even two Japanese reenactors showed up today. One dressed in full traditional Samurai armor and the other as a foot soldier. Several interesting...

Yeap, they certainly seem to be scarce. Your posts here and on SmokeStak are the only ones that I could find that had any real information. Tell where did these fall in the line of military generators? I know about the PE and PU units used during WW II and that there were AB(somethings) used...
Thanks for the link! The plates that they're talking about are aluminium and mine are brass so I can't clean them the same way. But there's some good tips there about how to paint the ones with the raised edges. BUT their painting technique requires that the plate but perfectly flat and some of...
Anybody know what alloy they usually use for fixing radiators?
FWIW I repair a LOT of micro-miniature electronics and I use 2% Silver Solder made by Kester. The alloy is 62/36/2 Pb/ Sn/ Ag. The stuff flows like water with no slushing and "wets" very well. It's also very hard when cooled...
I just found a 1951 Model 3ABG military generator and it appears sto have a lot of data plates but a lot of them look like this:
I'm trying to handle them CAREFULLY to prevent the paint from falling off and I'm going to photograph them to preserve the data but after that's done, is there...
I know this is an old thread but I just found a Model 3ABG-4E generator made by Onan and I'm trying to find out more about it. Does anyone have anything additional on these? The schematics, data plates and plates showing different parts of the generator are still with mine but the paint on...
As other's have said, it's not an M-37. Someone may have told you that it's a M-38 (early military Jeep) but it doesn't have M38 features so I think it's just a Civilian Jeep, aka CJ. Looks like a CJ-2a or CJ-3A due to the flat fenders and low hood. Do a Google search or look at one of the Jeep...
There was an article in the news about a week ago about the Denver airport having a BIG problem with rabbits chewing up the wires on hundreds of cars in the airport parking lot. IIRC they also said that they'd had several car fires due to it. They're now fencing in the parking lots and (reading...
Is this what you're looking for? http://www.caswellplating.com/electroplating-anodizing/zinc-plating-kits.html The pictures show it on aluminium but it's also used on steel.
There's all kinds of different plating "systems" (ie the metals that they plate onto the surface). Look around the...
