Just a bit of an update. Ive got the entire truck stripped down to frame. Found alot of wiring issues that were hidden and need to be replaced. Got most of the parts i needed and my engine will be ready for reassembly by Wednesday at the latest. Still waiting on the sand blasting guy who...
Im getting a bed off of a truck up in fort collins one of these weekends. Let me get a closer look at it and see if it was a marine truck. I seem to remember the lifting eyes on the front bumper but i could be a bit foggy a year later. If theres one on there ill snag it for ya!
hmm, ill have to pull them apart. One feels great and still moves smoothly but the other is seized up. Electric wipers are in the cards for it eventually but theres more important things that need done first.
Id be curious to know how much they would ask for them. Ive got a "decent" set on there right now but its only a matter of time until they are toast as well. They are soft still but have cracked in a few places. Let me know what you figure out!
It will get disc brakes when i get around to it. The brakes worked just fine when i was driving it so im not going to fix what isnt broken yet. It was a running and driving truck so i really just took it down to paint the frame and replace the wiring harness easier.
Just got off the phone with John at Midwest Mil. My parts are on the way! Here we go, ordered just about dang near everything i need for the truck that i cant source locally or make. Always great dealing with him, quick, easy and hes got just about everything you ever need!
Im planning on being there, its up in my neck of the woods this go around so i can actually justify stopping in to the meeting. Im excited to see that weasel too!
Heard back from the machine shop today. The engine is bored .040 over and the cylinders do not need to be bored any farther. They are straight and well within tolerance. Crank journals are .020 down and will be fine with just a polish. Looks like i was loosing all my compression through the...
well i took a night or two off but i have the engine torn down and ready to go to the machine shop. I didnt find much alarming except for a bunch of broken piston rings. At least one per hole. and all the bearings were completely down to coppers. No ridge in the cylinder walls so it must...
Ive got the metal part spec-ed out and am going to go see a buddy tomorrow that can source the rubber piece. Maybe ill get lucky and they have a tractor application or something along those lines. Ill update when i get it figured out!
I just figured out that there is some sort of adapter in my truck to convert civilian plug wires to screw onto the military distributor. Has anyone else seen something like this? They are machined steel and really seem to do the trick, they even seal up! Just curious if these were made by...
I got it from napa a year ago or so. I ended up having to go to an electric pump because the smaller diaphram on the napa pump wasnt pulling enough vacuum to pull fuel from the tank for some reason. An electric pump fixed it right up. Ive got a military mechanical pump now so it will go on...
Another nights progress! Got the engine and transmission out tonight and the engine partially ripped down. Pulled the head, manifolds, and valve covers and didnt find anything alarming. No ridge in the cylinders but they are really glazed. Valve guides are shot too. Heres some pictures of...
