    Platform for an MEP-003a

I had considered doing this, and mounting a larger tank underneath, but in the end just put in a concrete pad. Green Mountain had some aluminum tanks that would probably have worked well.

    MEP-003a and Generac transfer switch

RogerO: Unfortunately I think the Generac transfer switches are pretty brain dead, unless they are connected to a generac generator (they have some kind of communication link to the generator, which is where the decisions are made. This would make it tough to interface to the Mep, but if...

    MEP-003a and Generac transfer switch

Hi Roger, Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I'm using an ASCO 185 transfer switch with my MEP003a and PLC autostart. Been working great for about a year (and we've had about 3 or 4 power outages in that time). I just used the closed contacts from the ASCO to let the PLC that it was...

    MEP-003a and Generac transfer switch

Hi Roger, I have an Emerson Network Power transfer switch which works perfectly with my PLC controlled MEP003. It doesn't do load shedding though. I did find a small company that manufactures generic, intelligent loads hedders but in the end determined I didn't need it (advice from...

mep-003a running temp in a closed environment

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately I don't know any of the local HVAC guys, but Ebay & Craig's list have been my constant companions on this project so far! I'd been thinking of using a squirrel cage fan to add some positive venting if needed; and I have found a source of slightly damaged...

mep-003a running temp in a closed environment

Here's a few photos of the shed I built for my MEP 003a. I've posted in a few other threads as I went through the project, but thought this was a good place to post a few photos of the completed job. Many thanks to everyone who offered guidance and support over the last few months! The MEP is...

The military specs these to 125'F ambient; I wouldn't exceed that...

MEP Exhaust max temperatures (selecting braided flex hose)

Are you certain these weren't the original stainless steel laundry pipes? (Storeman posted some photos above).

MEP Exhaust max temperatures (selecting braided flex hose)

Yes...I double checked whether I'd put feet instead of inches for one of the measurements.... Just hoping that the ones I've ordered will do the job.

MEP Exhaust max temperatures (selecting braided flex hose)

That's what I thought! Another vendor just quoted me $690 per flex hose (15" long) at the same spec!!! (plus shipping!) I just ordered the $43 threaded hoses; will report back once I get them and provide details (I suspect that others might find these useful). -Steve

MEP Exhaust max temperatures (selecting braided flex hose)

Jerry, What's that 'union' on top of the black pipe (connecting to the laundry pipe). Is it some kind of flex joint or isolator? (It looks a lot larger than a regular union) -Steve

MEP Exhaust max temperatures (selecting braided flex hose)

I've been looking at all these options.... The automotive flex pipes with 1.75" i/d auto pipe work if you use a short section of 1.75 pipe - this just slips over the 1-1/4" black iron threads, and also fits inside the flex pipe (but needs two welds at each end). Obviously a less expensive...

MEP Exhaust max temperatures (selecting braided flex hose)

They are stainless steel flexible pipes, around 11-15' long that were used when MEP's were mounted on 'Laundry Trailers'. They have 1 1/4" NPTP thread fittings at each end, so can be fitted to the standard manifold (actually muffler) outlets on the MEPs However, I think they were really only...

MEP Exhaust max temperatures (selecting braided flex hose)

Thanks. I also have an IR Thermometer, but at the moment it's pretty cool here, and I can't run it under a lot of load. I had read that older diesels were usually at around 400'F (newer ones with the particulate removal 'cats' run a lot hotter - around 1200'F) Based on your numbers I suspect...

MEP Exhaust max temperatures (selecting braided flex hose)

I've realized that I'm going to need some short braided flex hose to attach to MEP003a the exhaust mufflers (this is so I can get the exhaust pipes to a location where I can attach the regular laundry pipes I'll be using). I've discovered these can't be attached directly if the MEP has an ASK...

    MEP003 Fuel Additives

Having got my 003a installed, I've spent the last couple of evenings browsing here trying to work out what fuel additives I should be using if running on regular pump diesel. Though there's a number of threads on additives, but I couldn't find anything conclusive What do you recommend for a...

    Another MEP-003a AutoStart with PLC

Agreed - definitely a greater sense of achievement doing it yourself! Do you think that with the SG2 you can avoid having to provide a second DC source of power (other than the main batteries?) That was the main hassle using the Unitronics (though I never tried it without the UPS...) -Steve
