Re: Inexpensive current & frequency transducer?
Yes.... Those are the prices I'm seeing. That's going to come to around $150 to $250 to get all three parameters into the PLC. Seems high when I can get a LCD meter and current loop to do nearly the same thing for $20
Anyone found an inexpensive frequency/current transducers? This is to hook into my Autostart PLC so I can monitor the MEP remotely while it's running.
There's various frequency transducers on ebay, but they're large, and not inexpensive (also outputs don't really match the 4-20ma or 0-10v I'm...
Thanks to all the advice posted here (especially sewerzuk), got my MEP-003a autostarting yesterday (worked first time!!)
I'm using a Unitronics Vision230 PLC, and interposing relays (the relays aren't really needed, as the PLC has onboard relays, but I used them for additional protection, and...
I was thinking of installing a second oil pressure switch like this, so I could monitor pressure with the PLC during auto-start (can't use the original as it's shorted out while cranking); plan was to continue to 'crank' to flash the field for a few seconds once I had good oil pressure, but I...
I've noticed something similar with the main fuel pumps (E2 and E3). When the switch is in a 'RUN' position they are permanently energized (I'm looking at the electrical schematics). I'm surprised at this - wouldn't it mean that if the unit ran out of fuel or stopped running for some other...
I've been looking at the places to hook into the control panel today; with sewerzuk info above it looks pretty easy, but I have a question.
Looking at the electrical schematics for the MEP-003a, it looks as if the fuel pumps still receive power (and I guess carry on running...) even if the...
Thanks. Based on that, I think that I'm going to have a (small) secondary battery and charger/UPS for the PLC. If the utility power has failed it doesn't sound like I can trust the generator batteries to keep the PLC up while cranking.
I definitely plan to post info - once I have something...
Thanks - I was about to post a message looking for that info!
I'm doing the same thing, but with the intent that it will also be hooked into an ATS (closed contact to autostart). I'm using an Ultronics PLC I picked up off ebay; it's got a nice graphical front panel and also internet/GSM...
Living in CT, that's a miracle - I've put over 400 hours on my 4.5kw ETQ diesel in the last 18 months during 3 major storms and a couple of minor outages. The generator housing now has 3 huge cracks through it - though it's still running and generating power. I thought it was time to move up a...
I'm looking to buy an 003a, and add my own auto-start (and the plan is that after starting it would be able to run unattended). Having seen others have done a push-button start with a PLC I was thinking that this was going to be relatively simple (I've got PLC/programming/controls background)...
I'm on the opposite coast looking for a good 003a and have the opposite problem... I can't get to GL and the other options are limited. Even considered a 2k mile round trip this week to pick one up...
Great to hear from you - I saw your posts and videos - part of the reason I decided this could be done!! I'll be certain to share progress on this - and I'm sure I'll be asking more questions as I work through it. At the moment we've still got a foot of snow in the yard, so it's going to be a...
Yes - that's what I suspected. I've also discovered today that the Kohler Load Control Modules are also propriety, and will only work with certain Kohler generators. It does seem that the Kohler RSB Load Centers have very basic load shedding, but all it does is disconnect the unwanted loads...
Problem is, if I use a sub-panel I still need load shedding (for that panel), or I can only include a small subset of what I need. The total of all the things I'd like to be able to run 'sometime' is > that what the generator is rated for. That said, if could find a sub-panel that did automatic...
Hi!
I've been lurking for several months, and have finally decided to go with an MEP-003a as an emergency backup whole house generator. Though I've spent plenty of time building/rebuilding old cars and trucks and other machinery this is the first time I've tried a generator (or anything...
