    Another MEP-003a AutoStart with PLC

Hi Roger - no problem (I think it's good to have a thread devoted to Autostart - I couldn't find much other that Sewerzuk when I started). Did you decide to go with the Flight Systems controller, or are you brewing your own?

    Another MEP-003a AutoStart with PLC

Final update: MEP & PLC now hooked up to an ASCO 185 Auto Transfer Switch. I had a local electrician do the ATS install for insurance/code reasons. We tested by disconnecting the service switch; PLC had the generator up and running 45 seconds later success!! After 15 minutes running we...

mep-003a running temp in a closed environment

Thanks! Sounds like you're really building something that is an alternative to the ASK. That had been my original plan until I lucked into a NOS one. Definitely interested in seeing how you do it!

mep-003a running temp in a closed environment

I'm interested in what you're doing here. I've got my MEP003a on a concrete pad, in an ASK, but really want to have some more protection, mainly to keep rodents out, but also so I can an auxiliary fuel tank in the shed. I'm considering a 10x10 shed, with the 'inlet' end of the ASK ducted...

    Another MEP-003a AutoStart with PLC

With the project finished, I thought I'd post another video showing auto start, and the PLC Interface now everything is buttoned up. (apologies for the quality) First the I switch to 'Auto' mode; and show the status of the generator (Utility power is out, and the UPS is providing power to the...

    Another MEP-003a AutoStart with PLC

I like the look of that - if I'd seen that before starting my project, I would probably have gone that route. I did see other controllers on ebay at around $300, but that looks to be a far better made unit. One thing that they point out is that it will still run at down to 7v - clearly that's so...

    Another MEP-003a AutoStart with PLC

Hey, I still get all of this with the auto start. But I can stand back and watch it happen! One unexpected advantage - yesterday I was trouble shooting the unit, and instead of having someone else come turn the switches while I tried to work out what was going on, the PLC just did it - made a...

    Another MEP-003a AutoStart with PLC

I ran it for about 1/2 an hour last night, and there didn't seem to be much vibration, though I had been concerned about that as well. It's mounted at the bottom (to the control box), and then to a vertical angle that extends out from the top of the ASK. At the moment I don't have anti-vibration...

    Another MEP-003a AutoStart with PLC

I've not added the parts up, but if I'd bought them all new they would be very expensive (probably a couple of $k). I just watched for deals.....I probably have around $700 in the autostart system (I wish I hadn't just worked that out!) However, it could definitely be done for far less $...

    Another MEP-003a AutoStart with PLC

I've got a pair of the stainless laundry pipes. I plan to have the generator on a pad, in a small shed. These will go out through the shed, and I'll probably have a pair of the 'flipper' covers on the top (like a semi - not sure what they're called).

    Another MEP-003a AutoStart with PLC

Apologies for the delay in updating the thread. Progress has been slow as I've been travelling with work, and was way-laid by a bad back. I went over the MEP, replacing/cleaning anything that looked suspect. I managed to find a new ASK (thanks to another forum member for letting me know where...

Fuel Stop Solenoid - does it have another name?

Just in case anyone is interested in the troubleshooting, with the info above I have managed to confirm that the solenoid itself is ok (without removing the ASK - phew!). Applying power to terminals A & C on connector J3 (the one that connects to the bottom of the airbox surrounding the inlet...

Fuel Stop Solenoid - does it have another name?

Hi, Just put the ASK (and a bunch of additional soundproofing) on my MEP003a, and permanently mounted/installed my PLC...and guess what, for the first time it won't start! I've identified the problem - it's definitely the fuel stop solenoid not operating (if I lift it manually when cranking...

MEP003a Laundry Flex Pipes or alternative

I'm curious about the "acoustical generator panel pile" - are these spare bits and pieces of MEP ASK kits? (in which case I'm good - I managed to pick up a new one); or are they general soundproofing materials? (I'm considering replacing the fibreglass in my ASK with something more effective -...

MEP003a Laundry Flex Pipes or alternative

Does anyone know where I can pick up a set of the stainless flex muffler pipes for the MEP003a? (I'm wondering if anyone might have a set they're looking to get rid of) Alternatively, has anyone advice on parts I can use to connect to the threaded muffler on the unit? I'm planning on...

    Inexpensive current & frequency transducer?

Yes - I'm also looking at that (trying to find out what the currents through the various meters represent), though that still doesn't give me the 'split' across the two 110v legs. Thanks Steve

    Inexpensive current & frequency transducer?

Looking for a pair of transducers to mount below the lugs in the distribution box, one to measure each leg (so at least 0-50A, preferably a little higher). These will interface to the PLC, with either a 4-20ma or 1-10v signal (I've got both options). I did get a Paladin frequency transducer...
