Antennas can be tricky. Part of the problem is how the antenna reacts to the metal of the truck body. As you bend the antenna over, you may be changing the operating frequency of the antenna. If you can get your hands on the MFJ analyzer, you could see just what is actually happening. Good luck...

I cheated with my convoy lights. I took a couple of angle irons mounted them across the convoy lights and made a light bar. Might be useful on a wrecker.
Seriously... I'd like to see Steel Soldiers cloth patches for hat or jacket. Then again a boarding ladder for my deuce wouldn't be bad. Or a window frame...
It's all good until something shorts out... All kidding aside, I like the seperate 12V system. Either some form of alternator with 12V and 24V taps, a battery equalizer or the device they call a DC autotransformer. The main advantage to the last gives you the ability to charge the 24V batteries...
Wind chill is the effect that moving air has on objects warmer than the temperature of the air. That means a warm object will cool down to the real air temperature much faster. It feels that much cooler. Actually humidity affects the chill factor too...
Just remember, if air movement didn't...
If the truck has or had a heater I'd agree with Stretch. Look for a big honking resister ( 2 1/2 or 3 inches long, wire wound.) wired across the two outer switch terminals that is or was definitely a heater switch. If there still is a heater on the truck, listen for the fan on the heater box.
I hate to say it... But there is such a thing as a DC autotransformer. ( I can only guess what sort of electronic magic they use to make them work. ) They are not very well known but they are popular in the solar industry.
