Does anyone know how this story ended? Were the brakes completly toast? How much had to be rebuilt or replaced, if any?
My recent recovery had similar results. I don't think my brakes got quite as hot but they were really smoking for a while.
FloridaAKM,
You are correct about the information on here! This is a fantastic site with tons of knowledge at your fingertips. I wish I could read it all. I've also met more like-minded people in the last year that I've met in the last 10 years.
I try to share my successes and lessons learned...
I can't edit my original post...the next to last paragraph should read:
"I've done some research this evening and found that this is a common problem. Too bad I did NOT read about it before today or else I would have been more prepared. I just hope I didn't do more than just burn the paint off...
I almost had a perfect recovery today of the M105A2 that I bought out of Indy. I got to the lot a little ahead of schedule and got the paperwork done with no problems. I found the trailer and was able to back right up to it with my M923A2. The GL guy met me there and told me that I was good to...
I'm in the commercial vehicle and off road vehicle industry and I can tell you that it's almost impossible to build anything without sourcing parts from China. All of the big names (John Deere, Cummins, Mack/Volvo, etc) use parts from China. The good news is that some parts from China are...
I pulled a picture from my phone that I took of my old cable (from a M923A2) and made this simple graphic during lunch - sorry if it is too crude... See below.
You should make sure the truck is NOT running.
Using your hand, pull the throttle linkage to Wide Open Throttle (WOT) and hold. Pull...
Yes...
Go to link earlier in this thread (post #5) for full discussion on my search. I found a supplier https://www.cccables.com/Controls/Modulator.aspx
Part number 2230-54 is what you need. Check it out. It worked for my truck but, obviously, I can't guarantee just a new cable will solve the...
Gunzy,
I used to think that hard downshifts were normal. My first truck, an M923A2, was brutal on the 2-1 downshift. My second truck was really smooth on on the 2-1 downshift and all the upshifts were much more civilized as well. I just thought that I was lucky and won a good shifting truck. I...
I would say make the adjustments per the TM and if that doesn't fix it then get a new cable. ( I think I have about .25" of slack in the moudulator cable at WOT- probably a little more than needed.)
I wasted a lot of time working with a modulator assembly that appreared OK but wasn't working...
I had an issue with hard downshifts on my M923A2. It would also go all the way to 2100 RPM before shifting even under light load. I always had to modulate the throttle to get a good shift under light acceleration.
I could not find any issues with my modulator or cable but bought a new one...
Sounds like the same issue I've had before....it was loose hose between CTIS valve and tire. Remove the sheet metal guard off the rim. The CTIS valve is under there. Thers is a hose between the CTIS valve and the rim that came loose. On mine, someone put a schrader valve on the tire side too. I...
I received 2 reverse light kits from another SS member. I didn't put them on yet but did some planning. I'm thinking about putting one light on the rear driver's side just below the brake light. I think I'll run another circuit and mount one light on the spare tire davit to light the cargo area...
I've been wondering how to best secure this flap as well. Sometimes the back of the soft top flops around and is quite drafty in the winter. Has anyone tried using one big strip of Velcro? One half could be adhered to the top edge of the cab and the other to the soft top. I think this would be...
OK...latest update on this project... I finally got the truck going with the new modulator cable (I had to wait to drive it beacuse I was also changing a dead fan clutch).
The new modulator absolutlely solved the hard shift problem I was having from 2nd down to 1st gear. I also think other...
In the event that the CTIS does not work, I would bring an air hose to pump up the tires. You can get one at just about any truck stop. I needed one on my last recovery.
.... another update.
I did more research and contacted Custom Control Cables. They apparently supply Orscheln brand modulators just like the original. The new part number is 2230-54. I asked them how it compared the original part number, 2242-54, and they said:
"The difference between the 2242...
