I don't like for the tachometer to go over 2000 rpm....you know where the danger sticker is....but that's just me. I'm convinced on my first truck; that it didn't start smoking till someone drove it too fast....but that's just superstition.
I'd look for stuff like: What was the color of the transmission fluid, oil, and coolant? Do all the gauges and blower work? The amount left on tires such as are they cracked or showing signs of age? Smoke if any, color of smoke, and smell of smoke. Check out the batteries to see if they are...

It's been in the 30's here and I jumped in the M923a1 and tried to start it.....she didn't want to start! I was surprised because it always starts within the first couple cranks, I just replaced the batteries with two 1,700 CA, 1,400 CCA....
I sprayed some ether in it and it didn't like it but...
I sprayed crack in mine.....I wouldn't recommend using ether.....but mine looked like a SHOWER of black water as it ran for the first few minutes.......LOUD as can be!
