I did the modification to prevent the engagement of the front axle automatically when put in low range, only works now with the selector switch on the dash. I would be curious why this little tweak wasn't done in the field if case failure was so high. I assume it would it would fail inspection...
I like the valve. 90% of the time I could run around here in MT with that just turned off. Might come in handy if the stat packs up again. I hope that will not be the case however.

Man I wish I had XZLs. I am running the XL and they are loud, old and have terrible wear life. Count this as another vote for running what amounts to the cream of the crop but if you decide not to you should be able to sell them quickly. I would buy them but then I doubt we are close.

You could have bacteria in the fuel. Try adding a treatment for that. Otherwise you can drain it (here is hoping there isn't 60 gallons in there) and let it settle in some buckets for a while. Then you could really see what is going on in the tank and if some sort of scum forms on the...
Here is the video of what I did, the parts I had to purchase and the parts I *would* purchase if I did it again.

My conversion has hundreds of miles on it now and works flawlessly without having to extend any hoses or change any of the wiring...
Yea, something like that. Could you yank the engine/trans out swap in a smaller modern power plant with more HP say out of a pickup and just fab a drive line to the transfer case easy-peasy, or is the transmission also part of the suspension? 12v Cummins with an auto for instance.

I have run the percolator style heaters on two of my trucks. Not as efficient as a freeze plug unit but they both work fine. I can get the block up to 160ish in a few hours. Of course the temps plummet as soon as the water pump is circulating but it is enough to start it easy. I will be...
I hate to revive but do you remember the noise it was making or more importantly did the hub rock back and forth. I know I have a bad shutter stat and the fan is locking up BUT when locked up I can still move the fan back and forth a bit on the clutch, not in or out or any wobble just back and...
My compressor must be a little anemic because there is no way I could run my 1 inch impact off the truck, it would take longer waiting for recovery than just standing on the breaker bar handle. Might be the fault of the gun however. I think I would be better off with a smaller 3/4 drive gun of...
You can search on it here and see the conversions guys have done. One of the venders was going to offer a kit on it. I hate to say it but you might just learn to live with it, they are sort of dogs and nothing sort of lots of $$$$$ is going to make a lot of difference. I know that isn't...
Tours are up this year. It has been really wet so the road isn't holding up as well and it can be very cold up above 7000 feet when the clouds are low.
I switched this truck to trans fluid on this truck because I was tired of the drive lines ringing and banging when it shifted. I only...
I run the truck the exact same way everyday and keep meticulous mileage and maintenance records. It would be a perfect test bed for ideas you might have. For instance I can tell you that switching to 90wt in the axles and transfer case will give you a .2mpg fuel economy boost. Making the air...
I think a misunderstanding of checking with engine running in neutral. He is very skilled it was just one of those things we all do from time to time. I just hope the pump in the transmission is ok. I am sure as long as there was some oil, even if it is just foam it will be fine. Be awful to...
