    Adding a tach?

Has anyone figured out a good way to mount a tach onto the steering column like a 60s car? I'm saving the open spot next to the voltmeter for a temp gauge, and I don't want to change where the dummy lights are unless it's easy to change over to a setup like richingalviston has.

M1009 Spare tire mount on grill brush guard?

Valid point, the bumper brackets aren't any different than a civilian Blazer aside from having a couple extra holes in them. The brush guard already weighs about 3-4 times more than the bumper by itself. Add ~60lbs of tire and wheel with leverage on those carriage bolts and you're gonna have a...

M1009 CUCV The Life Of 'Trooper'

I had an issue similar to this when I first got my truck. It never liked staying in 3rd speed. After checking the trans fluid and seeing that it was perfect cherry red I chalked it up to being how it was with the weird diesel not making natural vacuum but hooked up to a transmission that...

M1009 Spare tire mount on grill brush guard?

I'd be curious to see if it's been done with favorable results. The stock setup eats up more interior space than I'd like, but I know it's not gonna cause an accident if it decides to fall off, which it wont. Edit: deleted the 2nd paragraph after realizing I was incorrect.

    M1009/Blazer Tailgate Cables

Good to know. I'll probably give the generics a try. The other thought I had was if anyone ever tried retrofitting or building old school steel bars with the hinge in the middle of them like they had in the early 70s and previous for gm trucks. To me that always seemed like the strongest...

    M1009/Blazer Tailgate Cables

My oem cables are worn to the point where I feel its unwise to climb into the truck through the back. The only replacements I've seen are Dorman generic cables that seem to be half the thickness of the originals, which to me translates to "They must be crappy" Am I incorrect in thinking this...

    Door Panel Paint Source?

I've been hesitant to color the door panels themselves since I'm always resting my arm on it, it's a pretty heavy use item. Was gonna see how the sem burgundy held up on the console and my new dash pad before spraying door panels. The end result of your armor all process is pretty nice, and has...

    Door Panel Paint Source?

Here's something useful for any doubters (like I was) The center console is sprayed in the sem 15063 burgundy we've been discussing, and the dirty thing next to it is a pristine example of the original interior color from the inside of one of my door panels. Other useful tidbit, GM did in...

[video] Is this amount of smoke normal?

Nice! Yeah that elevation won't weaken it at all. Made the incorrect assumption that you lived in the mountains.

[video] Is this amount of smoke normal?

Not to mention the elevation sucks a fair amount of power away from an engine that already isn't known for being a powerhouse. Might be pretty limited on towing capacity because of that. On the plus side, looks like you already have a proper hitch. I wouldn't trust a stock pintle much over...

Is $7000-$8000 too high for super clean M1009?

They seem to be on a somewhat upward trend. I have seen a couple that looked pretty clean on the Illinois/Wisconsin CL recently. Prices seem to match fleabay. I got mine in June from our area for $4300 titled and registered with a western plow. There were some issues, mainly a very rusty floor...

Cucv Correct Gauge Cluster Ribbon/Printed Circuit

Yeah the stuff isn't cheap unfortunately. Didn't see anything on lmc truck, but I did see new printed circuits elsewhere for $70. The sense I got when I had mine apart was that it had been taken apart and reassembled several times before I ever got into to it. The contacts where the main power...

Cucv Correct Gauge Cluster Ribbon/Printed Circuit

So I've been chasing misc electrical issues in my m1009, the most obnoxious of which was the speedometer not illuminating at night. Took the dash apart and figured that part of it out, but after replacing bulbs and reassembly the oil pressure light (above gen 2) and the right turn signal light...

    Door Panel Paint Source?

Funny, I was just about to add your findings to the thread, but ya beat me to it. Thanks again for the pictures and your input on how the stuff wears! +1 to sem 15063 burgundy being the correct (or pretty darn near correct) color for the chevy cucv interiors.

Normal For M1009 To Smoke Under Load?

I was only ever talking about turning the fuel down/air up incrimentally. Other users have used even more 2 cycle without the level of smoke I'm experiencing. I doubt the ip has ever been rebuilt. I've already determined from what other users have described that my truck is smoking a little too...

Normal For M1009 To Smoke Under Load?

The thread got derailed some time ago. Started as a "Is this amount of smoke normal" thread (to which the answer is no) and turned into an anger and rage debate over fuel additives somehow. The only reason ip settings came up was so I knew how to tinker with it as a last resort. Far as I'm...

Normal For M1009 To Smoke Under Load?

That seems more or less how it smokes under medium/heavy acceleration. But it sounds like your motor is a good 1000 rpm higher in the mud pit than mine is accelerating on asphalt.

Normal For M1009 To Smoke Under Load?

Thanks for the useful info all. I checked out the 6.2 motor technical manual before posting, and that detailed every little thing EXCEPT ip settings. For things related to the ip the manual very quickly said "send it off to stanadyne for tuning" Definitely gonna take baby steps with any...

Normal For M1009 To Smoke Under Load?

Whoa whoa whoa there. I don't think you're understanding what I'm getting at at all. I'm trying to learn how to adjust the motor to run the way it did from the factory and not spew excessive black smoke in the event all easier methods others suggested fail. I'm not interested in hot rodding it...

Normal For M1009 To Smoke Under Load?

Whoooops.. the thing I was talking about is actually the fuel delivery adjustment inside the ip, not timing. The video I watched referred to it as timing for some reason. If I were to adjust fuel delivery, which way would I need to turn the screw to make it run more lean?
