I have put LS engines in Jeeps. They are cheap , plentiful and have a ton of aftermarket support. If the 6.5 in my HMMWV takes a dump I would seriously consider an LS swap keeping it fuel injected with a 6l80 trans.
Thanks this location worked well. I now feel comfortable leaving the HMMWV in a parking lot. Thanks to NormB for his assistance yesterday. I am planning to find a threaded cap that will go onto the switch and painting it green for added security. I am pretty sure the thread is 3/4 x 10
if I...
Thanks Natrgatr and others that is exactly what I was looking for. I have not looked under the floor area yet but I assume you were able to route 2/0 cable to there to the switch. Did you need to drill more holes in the battery box for the cables to be able to pass through Sue and BLKHMMWV I...
I have been trying for weeks to locate a good clean location to mount a battery disconnect switch that is in reach of the driver that does not interfere with anything else. I have considered multiple locations but none of them seem to be great.
I already have a keyed switch and I am going to...
I did a bunch of searching and I have not located the specific information that I am looking for. I have a 100 amp alternator in my 1986 M998 with the dual voltage regulator that I assume was installed in 2007 when the Vehcile was overhauled in ME.
I spent of bunch of time and made a nice...
Is it your front or rear output that is leaking? I got my rear seal and star washer from Kascar for my 218 it fit correctly and I also put Mopar RTV on the splines of the yoke, I also always put thin layer of RTV on the outside of the seals incase there is a nick or scratch in the seal or...
I did this in my 218 Transfer case a few weeks ago I have probably driven it 30 miles or so and so far not a single drip. Do you know what transfer case model you have? My 218 has a fixed yoke on the rear output if you have this style you should be checking for a groove worn into the yoke itself...
Try and find one with a 6.5 GEP engine they are said to be the best for reliability
I am no expert but I know the 6.2 had more reliability issues such as engine block castings which have been upgraded with the 6.5 blocks I was also told that the GEP engines were new GM built engines and not...
Correct it prevents the red metal part from being lifted off of the brake lever. At this time I prefer to keep this style I have not used the newer style yet but I think this would be more reliable with less parts to fail. I guess it has grown on me.
I was looking for a new style lever and...
I thought maybe the guy I purchased the truck from put the hose clamp on it and electrical tape but I have seen a few more with the same setup
I am planning to replace mine with something like this - https://www.mcmaster.com/#shaft-collars/=1d025ej
here is a picture of someone else's HMMWV from...
My lever has some type of metal contraption on it with a hose clamp and electrical tape were it cannot be released without lifting the contraption first. I was going to replace the lever with a newer style with the push button but after thinking more about it this seems to be the safest setup...
I am still a HMMWV noob and I have owned my first one for about a month now. I was in the same boat as you and I was watching the auctions since Govplanet started selling them. They were selling for much less then but I had to much going on in my life to try to convince the wife to let me get...
Thanks for posting those. My 86 already has those on it. Mine was overhauled in 2007 and came to me with about 3500 miles on the odometer. The parking brake system was also upgraded then
It was from the National Guard so I am assuming it spent most of its time sitting which is not good for any...
Please post pics of the double clamp setup. I purchased my hmmwv from a private seller but I am pretty sure it sat for a long time possibly several years. I spent about 30 minutes trying to get the clip out then decided to order the drivers side cable, new clips and a new muffler gasket and do...
Today I replaced both rear parking brake cables and the parking brake works great now. My assumption of a stretched cable was correct. Both caliper parking brake levers now move all the way through their travel. Unfortunately I did decide to remove the muffler which I hope to never do again.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remove the clip that secures the parking brake cable into the crossmember above the muffler without removing the muffler?
I believe my passenger side cable is stretched and I am planning to replace it because its not pulling the caliper actuator lever...
I am a new to owning a HMMWV. I have a 1986 with the 3L80 3 speed setup. Should it downshift on its own when pressing the accelerator down to the floor and at what speeds would it downshift?
Also there is a cable that connects onto the passenger side that has a minor leak does anyone know...
I had a good time I have not attended this show since the early 90's. There was a vendor there that I wanted to get his information but I forgot to and I am hoping someone may be able to help me figure out who it was and get in contact with him. He was there with someone else and between them...
