Yeah. These trucks are a piece of cake to change mounts on, but it's been pouring rain every time I have a day off and the truck won't fit in the garage anymore because of the 37's... Hopefully the weather will behave next weekend...
Thanks. One of my cab mounts is suspect already. I'll check fan clearance. I got a set of polyurethane cab mounts, just waiting for a dry day off to install them.
I understand how the system works. I am confused as to why this only happens in damp weather. Truck shifts and operates like a champ when it is warm and dry. Sounds like an electrical issue to me, but there is only the downshift wire going to this trans, the rest is vacuum/hydraulic control. I...
It is fine as long as I am driving in a straight line. When cornering sharp the noise comes up. I can drive all day long down the highway and not hear it, but if I take off from a stop while turning a corner, it comes up for a few seconds. Is this what you are talking about?
Does anybody know the correct GM part number for the VRV? The guy at the local GM parts department gave me a number, but the part shows a wiring pigtail and mine doesn't have one.... I don't think it's the right one and they want $150 for it...
I have it parked inside the building tonight, so I'll see if it shifts better when I head home tonight. If it does, I'm going to use a spray bottle and dampen the components to see if it makes any difference.
Yeah. All the lines are good. It shifts great when it is warm and dry out, just not when cool and damp. The vacuum pump produces good vacuum and the entire system holds vacuum great. Just is doing something weird in damp weather... Not sure yet if it is a temperature or dampness issue yet.
It's definitely in the engine. I originally thought it was the exhaust, but that checked out fine. Engine mounts have been all changed. It did it before the new mounts too. It sounds like IP noise to me, but it's hard to check seeing it only does it on the road....
Croatan_Kid on this site has done the 6bt swap. This is the link to his photobucket album of the swap. Really good documentation.

I have an 1985 M1008. The 6.2 runs pretty good and doesn't make any unusual noises when going straight down the road, but when I turn and accelerate around a corner, the engine (think it's the injection pump) starts making a bunch of exhaust tick-like sounds. When the truck straightens out the...
Okay. I'm normally pretty good with transmissions, but this one is confusing me... I got my M1008 and the Army had the vacuum pump hooked up directly to the transmission modulator. This caused it to practically skip 2nd and shift into 3rd at 18mph no matter what throttle position was. I...
Don't buy this from the company's site. Go check around like Summit Racing or something like that. You could also call a GM parts supplier and get pricing on an OEM one from a 1/2 ton 6.2 diesel Suburban. TCI Auto: 700-R4 Maximizer™ High Torque Towing Converters 30 Spline
I too made the mistake of driving my M1008 from Jackson, Mississippi back home to Northeastern Illinois... Burnt an alternator, had no headlights or right-hand signal in the front, had the drag link coupling come loose, threw 2 belts, and could only do about 45mph!!! I could have had it shipped...
It's on the keyed snout of the crankshaft. Just have to remove the pulley, the harmonic dampener bolt and use a dampener puller/installer tool. You can use the cheap 3 bolt one to remove it and use a piece of threaded rod with a nut and large washer to press it back on. Not too bad. No timing...
I pulled that recall info off of Alldata. It is a copy of the GM recall sent out back in the day. I believe it covers all 6.2 J-codes. Let me know if GM takes care of it for you. Would be good for everyone who has this issue to know.
These guys are pretty reasonable for a custom driveshaft and can make anything you want.
