    m1008 charging issues

My M1008 does the same thing with the volt meter until the glow plug controller switches off. It sits in the yellow a while then it climbs into the middle of the green once the relay disengages.

    Lift kit question

I just did this same size lift on my truck. Here is what I used. It was pretty reasonable. Skyjacker 4" lift kit without rear springs Skyjacker Nitro Shocks (Going to get Fox Shocks when I can afford them...) Skyjacker 2-4" drop Pitman Arm Skyjacker extended brake lines Offroad Design HD front...

    Windshield Washer Pump

Yeah. Napa has a reasonably priced replacement for the Wiper motor/ washer assembly. It is a rebuild, but these pumps were cam driven off the wiper motor and not known to be very reliable. For a 1/6 of the price you can get a universal electric pump and a couple "T" fittings and retrofit that to...

Use oil pan gasket, or not?

Permatex Ultra-Black gasket maker works pretty good for sealing up things that come into contact with oil. They make it in an aerosol propelled dispenser bottle too which is awesome.

    tough electrical problems

http://old.steelsoldiers.com/index.php?module=pagesetter&type=file&func=get&tid=1&fid=file&pid=8 This is the maintenance manual for the M1008 CUCV When I get home from work I will pop the hood on my truck and take a look at it compared to the diagrams and see if I spot any fusible links or...

    tough electrical problems

Really is sounding more and more like a bad connection point somewhere near the batteries / starter. The reason I say this is because the lighting system is not attached directly to the ignition / starting system. This is exactly what happens when you leave your lights on all night and your...

You are probably going to need a transformer to step down the power to 208v like your house uses. If it is a 480v 3-phase only generator, the closest you can get by direct hookup is 277 volt, which will fry everything electronic in your house. I know my 50kw tow behind civilian generator has a...

Best Thing You've Found in Your CUCV

I found 6 Black Widow spiders, a Brown Recluise spider, a Tinker Bell birthday card, and a bunch of random childrens clothing when I was on the way back home from buying my M1008. Thankfully the Black Widows were all hiding under the hood. Only the Brown Recluise came to visit me in the cab...

When is the Gen 2 light coming on? Is it just at startup for a short time or is it staying on? It is normal for the Gen 2 light to come on for a short time until the self-exciter on the 12v alternator kicks on. Now if it is staying on, then you have other problems. If it is staying on, I would...

    belts for my m1009

Gates products are top-notch. I use them on the air handlers at work and they seem to hold up the best by far. When we tried Goodyear belts we were changing them all the time. I've used Gatorback belts too in the past on my Suburban and that serpentine belt probably has 80K miles on it and still...

    tough electrical problems

It definately sounds like a bad connection somewhere. Most common spot for this symptom is right at the battery terminals. Also check that the terminal posts are not damaged. They can actually break loose from the battery case when abused. If that checks out I would put a decent Ohm meter on the...

    charging problem Gen#1

Mine does that too when I first start my truck. After the engine smoothes out and the rpms raise a little, it goes away and stays away. Alternators need to reach a certain rpm before they self-excite and begin producing current. Is your Gen 2 light coming back on after it goes off?

M1008 / M1009 CUCV Oil Cooler Line Failure

Installed the new oil cooler lines this morning. They were not fun... If you do it, make sure to pay close attention to how the lines sit and overlap each other going around the back of the engine. It also helps a lot to have somebody else help wiggle the lines around when trying to get the...

M1008 / M1009 CUCV Oil Cooler Line Failure

I believe that your '86 is safe because the recall was issued in August of 1985. So they were aware of this before that time. The 1984 is under the recall from what I have read. Just check the numbers stamped on the hoses to see if they match the recalled hoses like mine did. If the hose is...
