I said resist.
For educational reasons, would you be willing to make a video while testing your resister without load and under load and share with us?
I was thinking about putting a 1996 6.5 diesel in my M1009 and was thinking about the starter.
I know the 6.5 has a 12v starter and the M1009 has a 24v starter.
The reason why I want to stay with the 24v starting system is because I have a Warn custom made $2800 24v 12k winch.
Will the 24v...
Many years ago when my resisters fried, I went searching for a new set. I could not find any. At that time, they did not make them anymore. I did not want to take any chances with buying a used set. Hence the bypass.
I agree keeping it all stock is more beneficial.
You just explained what I...
I never ran the 13G glow plugs. I am not sure what the voltage is per plug. I would assume around 12.5-11.5 drop.
To my knowledge, the resister basically resists/converts the 24volt to 12 volt. So test each end of the resister. One side should be 24 volt and the other about 12volt. Depends if...
I did this twice! Fried the batteries, fried the glow plugs and fried the glow plug resister on firewall. After replacing the batteries and glow plugs, it took twice as long to heat up the GP because the resisters were fried. Took 1 year to finally realize that the resisters were shot too. I...
I forgot the name of these 3 sensors on the 6.2. Some help please?
Driver front inline with glow plugs?
Passenger rear inline with glow plugs?
Driver top rear next to oil pressure sensor?
Step 26.
Radiator Removal.
Use an 8mm socket, wrench and disconnect the heater core hoses from the radiator and crossover pipe from the motor. Wire tie them to the battery bolt in an upright position so coolant does not come out. If the hoses can not be removed by hand, use an adjustable...
Step 25.
Draining Radiator.
Next I am going to show you how to drain your coolant from your radiator without spilling 1 drop! 😎
Get about 2-3 feet of 1/4 inch hose and a 1/4 inch hose connector and 2 clean 5 gallon buckets from parts store.
Use wire cutters and cut the 1/4” hose connector to...
Step 24.
Oil Cooler line removal/Transmission cooler line removal.
Get under your ride with a rag and 7/8 standard wrench or 22mm wrench (7/8 fits better) and disconnect the oil cooler lines. Have the bucket and rag ready in case some oil comes out. Usually not much oil will come out because...
Step 23 continued...
Use 13mm socket and wrench and unbolt the top 4 radiator supports.
Use 10mm socket and wrench and unbolt the 2 bolts holding top radiator cover.
Remove the supports and top cover as one whole piece and put it on your work bench. Place the bolts into your labeled radiator...
Ok. Great advice! I’ll remove the precups with a wood stick to prevent damage to the precups and put them in the 6.5 spare parts box and toss the cracked heads. Again...
Jobs done! Easier then I thought! Just saved myself at least $120 on bigger precups!
Then I went to my work and used a 3...
Step 23.
Fan shroud/Radiator support removal.
Use a 10mm socket and wrench and unbolt the coolant reserve overflow tank hose clamp from fan shroud and unbolt the other top 3 bolts on top of the fan shroud.
Use needle nose pliers and disconnect the coolant reserve overflow tank hose from...
Step 22.
Draining Oil/Block Heater Cord Removal
Drain oil. Use 14mm wrench doubled up with 16mm wrench to remove oil pan plug. Have 5 gallon bucket or pan ready.
Unplug block heater. Make sure block heater cord will not be in way of motor during removal.
Loosen oil filter with hands or...
A couple of the precups are cracked. I read once on the diesel page that it should not effect anything? Can anyone confirm this?
Also found some cracks between some of the valves. Good or bad?
At work today, someone recycled an early model 6.5. 506 block. Broken crank and a huge crack starting from the bottom all the way up. Wicked!
The heads looked good. I might just take the heads. The precups look bigger too.
Been seeing a lot of 506 blocks with cracked blocks and broken cranks...
I noticed the 95 6.5 has the alternator on passenger side and 96 6.5 has the alternator on driver side.
I’ve never seen a 6.2 with the 6.5 turbo set up OEM. The 599 block is for sure a 6.5.
It is claimed that the 599 is the best block for the 6.5 years.
I like your body work you did! You did...
