There is 5 inches of clearance, more than enough for all practical purposes. Very few people with MVs will ever have their stuff in the extreme situations that the military invisioned when designing these trucks. The fifth wheel, if I remember right, is 4 inches above the fenders, once again...
Thanks guys for the compliments. I am posting some more pics that show the stiffeners along the edges. The flat fenders with "square" profile maintain the non aerodynamic look of the older military vehicles!
Finally got "my problem" fixed. I installed Advanquest System Suite 9 a few months ago for my security program. Coincidentally at the same time the new Steel Soldiers was being born. SS was the only website(still wonder why) that I had problems with, so I assumed it was the site, not my...
I used 3/16" plate. Looking real close in the photos, you can see that I used a 3/8" X 1 1/2" flat bar bent to fit under the perimeter edges of the fenders, inboard and outboard to brace them.
If you think about just a minute, the wheel bearings stay in the same place no matter which way the hubs are installed. Sooo, if you got wheel bearing trouble it aint the hub causing the problem.
My 5 ton has to earn its keep which means pulling a detach lowboy sometimes. This type of trailer does not have a deck over the rear drive wheels like a flatbed trailer. I saw right quick that the big Goodyear 395's were gonna be shooting rocks out like a Gatlin gun!! Full fenders were the...

No plans for a bed since this truck will see tractor duty. Check this thread to see it in action.

We use it for off road hauls. I am working on 24 to 12volt conversion for the trailer wire circuits so on road movement with civilian trailers...
Here is the before and the after. Drives really nice. Improved ride quality and just a little more ground speed at any given rpm. Wheels, tires, painting, o-rings, valve stems, travel time, motels and gasoline spent to round all this up: about $4,000.00!!! The new look of the M818: PRICELESS!!!
The 11:00X20 spare will stay on the truck just in case. This truck will not stray far from home, so a spare is a non-issue for me anyway. Thanks for the comment.
Trying to update this but I have a lot of problems posting!! After getting the tires on the wheels with no leaks it is time to think about the next time you have to dismount the tires. The threads on the wheel assembly studs will see a lot of mud, moisture, etc. So I used 3/4" heat shrink tubing...
Still cant surf this site like the old one. Hard to believe one other individual and myself are the only ones having the
problem. I have three different computers with two different ISPs with the same problem on all. Can someone help
with problem number one?!? As I type this in the reply box...
Thanks 1stmate for the input. It just dont matter how I get to a new tab or window. Right clicking and selecting new tab or new window is the way I like to do it. I prefer multiple tabs to multiple windows. Problem #1 is not affected any way I do it. Thanks M813 for the reassuring words..!! I...
Thank you M813. Thank you, thank you..!..! Now I know that I am not crazy !! Now if one of the moderators or administrator will chime in with the techno on this, life will be good again!! Dont really want to change to Foxfire as otisroy suggested because I am used to IE and it works...
