You'll love having that clamshell type puller and a case spreader. Almost makes setting up gears a pleasure. If the case spreader is painted hammer tone green and sold by a seller on eBay I have the same one. It is beefy, pretty sure you could break a case before you broke it.
Don't forget to add in a nice inch pound dial type torque wrench and a case spreader. Between those two is another $300-600 and it is difficult to set preload without them.
Sounds like a fun project, I like setting up gears.
Got it back together and drove it today.
New rear main seal
New main bearings (std & .013mm under)
New rod bearings (.026mm under)
New fan clutch.
Put my other rebuilt transfer case in.
The TM and parts listing saved my bacon on the odd sized bearings. A short evilbay search with the correct...
Crown Performance in California.
They make nice hoses, would be worth a phone call. Not everything is listed on their website. If you can think of a brake hose they will make it for you. I know it is a pain when you are not at home and can't measure what you have. Crown makes all of the...
The front caliper could be sticking because of corrosion, or bad hoses (can act as a check valve of sorts). Tear it apart and see what you find. I'd replace all brake components (all mine are less than 5 years old), after all they are all most likely 30+ years old.
You can get a caliper hot...
Another way to fix the shock mount problem might be to use "upside down" shocks like the Bilsteins where the rod end is down giving you more clearance. I can't really speak to a 4" shackle flip since mine is only a 2.5" flip. For me the stock rear mounting points work fine with Bilsteins.
Shackle flip is what I have. That being said for whatever reason ORD does not list how much it turns your pinion angle up.
Pretty close to 2 degrees up per inch of lift with a shackle flip. I.E. a 4" lift by shackle flip will turn your pinion up by 8 degrees.
So imagine this, when you do a...
Not a wild guess from me.
The ORD F3 is the longer shock they sell to only use with the extended Ford F250 shock mounts, not the stock mounts. You can get quite a bit of travel with it... So much so that in my experience you can bind the pitman end ball joint on your draglink if you don't have...
Double groin kick.
1) My 6.5 crate has a one piece main seal, have to pull the engine or the transmission to do it.
2) Main bearings look ugly - real ugly.
Doh!
At least you have experience now.
I'm also a firm believer in pulling the glow plugs when it comes time to prime the system again. Once you see white clouds shooting out all 8 glow plug holes you know you are ready to reinstall the glow plugs and start it right up.
If you don't need to send in a core for that AC Delco "reman" it could be a good deal. Whatever you do don't give up your old leaking steering gear. Just you set that thing aside and put it in a large flat rate USPS box so I can add it to my steering box horde.
I doubt that AC Delco "reman"...
There really isn't any new ones except for PSC and maybe a couple others. The box is a Saginaw 800.... I think.
I am hesitant to suggest mystery part store "rebuilt" ones, I have seen one that had a tag & a fresh coat of black paint on it but a casting that belonged in a scrap bin.
They...
Bilstein 5100's. But I have about 4" of lift. They replaced some Skyjacker ones that were less than 2 years old. Night and day difference. The Bilsteins are fantastic.
