Your unit has 3 pumps. They are all the same. The main 2 pumps are in series for redundancy. You can run fine off of one pump. Take one of those and relocate it to the oil tank. Use that and the aux. pump in series and you should be more than ok. Then if it works well and you want the 2 pump...
I was thinking of a 30-50 gallon tank that I could put near the generator. For now I am going to stick with the jerry cans. I plan to come up with a way to get oil out of my heating oil tank so if fuel stations are not operating I can refuel the generator from that.
Air hose quick connects are usually 1/4 pipe thread. The bung adapter has the same thread, I believe.
If you do not want to spring for the bung adapter just buy a 2" MPT bushing and adapt accordingly. Home Depot or any of those type of stores will have what you need. You will need to make a...
I believe the lift is 6 feet. You may find that a 35 foot run combined with 8 feet of lift is a bit much. You could add a pump near the tank to combine with the aux. pump.
Straight 30 is good for 30 deg and up. Below 30 deg is 10 weight. 15-40 is a good all around oil. Make sure it is a diesel oil. Rotella is one brand name.
Well the facet pump 480517E flows 33 gph. At full load the MEP-002a burns .5 gph. So you will be dealing with 32.5 gph of return fuel if you used a pump. Gravity feed you will of course have less fuel returning. Most likely your idea won't work. Good luck.
I am going to give it a try. Nothing to lose. The pump does not work now so the worst that happens is it doesn't work after I am done. I have found a new unit for under $90 shipped.
First I have to get that unit running again. It ran for a minute then died and would not restart. I did not...
I do have a fuel pump question. Only one of the two electric pumps works. (The aux. transfer pump works fine). I have a feeling the unit does not work because the old fuel gummed it up. Has anyone had luck getting a dead pump working again?
Don't expect you to know all member names. Especially not new ones. I have read that the gen heads do not hold paint. Also I am sure the gen heads get pretty hot in normal operation so that does not help either. I will not be getting back to my units until after Thanksgiving. Once I do more work...
Jerry, I just bought a box of things from you.
Forgot to mention that both units built oil pressure. My next goal is to see if they are ok electrically. I know the one I could not restart just needs a good going through and a fuel check valve. The good running unit scares me a bit. The gen...
A friend and I bought 2 MEP-002a units from a GL auction recently. We had worked the other night for a few hours inspecting and PMing the units. We started to clean the fuel system, replaced the oil filters and filled the crankcases with oil. Today we worked on finishing the fuel system cleaning...
diesel engines don't have an ignition system. The heat of compression is what ignites the fuel. This is why you need glow plugs in cold weather. The heat generated during a cold start is not enough to light off the fuel.
