36's and no over drive then 4.10's would probably be a good ratio.
Might look for some 3/4 ton axles out of a civilian truck. Many came with that ratio from the factory and the rear axle would be loads better than the 10 bolt you have now, even with a 14 Semi Floater.
Good, like I said...front...
Talk to Croatan Kid and mangus. They and a few others on here have done the swap. If you can find a whole truck with the 700R4 (preferably a diesel) then you have all the necessary parts right there. However be aware the 6.2L 700R4's are set up a bit differently than the SBC 700R4's.
Every time this is discussed someone on here mentions how it's been done...but always empty...never loaded. Empty they're within the weight capacities of a diesel powered K5 just fine...empty...
Yeah, I had one of the Chevies at a job I had at an airport several years ago. Max speed was like 15mph...pathetically slow but it'd push a Gulfstream V across a tarmac covered in 2' of snow like it was shoving a red rider wagon.
Go with at least a 9000 lb winch. The general rule of thumb for winches is at least 1.5 times the GVWR of the truck. Most K5's are around 6k anyways so a 9k winch should be the minimum. A 8274 is a nice winch but just not big enough for these trucks.
Someone had a post on here a while back...
We've discussed these several times on here, a couple months ago even. Do a search for "tug" and I bet it shows up.
These were meant to shove HEAVY loads. Not B-52's mind you but even a F/A-18 is around 35k lightly loaded. 4x4 when moving aircraft is great.
No M number, these were just...
Yeah...don't want to put the gate up with the window extended...try www.car-part.com or look on ebay for a company called LKQ. Either that or hit up here and CK5 for guys parting out trucks.
I never saw this thread before so some thoughts:
-For cup holders just find a civilian center console...
If you have any trouble finding the grill parts lemme know. I found where to get them fairly cheap in the States this summer. $18 US for the correct "2 headlight" grill instead of $45+.
Damn, can't play the video. Have to do it tonight at home.
Do a search, we've discussed this many times. Some of the guys got VERY intricate with their installation jobs and did some great work and had some great pics and ideas.
ACDelco no longer makes them and GM lists it as an obsolete part number. I think this has been the case for a while though. The same is with the 1/2 ton "C code intake" 6.2 CDR's and the various civilian "J code", van, and other 6.2L CDR's.
SOME GM dealers still have some in the system but...
What he said. When I was in the Marines 97-01 all of the civilian spec trucks and cars were serviced and "Based" out of the Civilian Motor Pool (CMP). They usually serviced them according to the various auto maker's "heavy use" service schedule.
12v vs 24v...well, being a perfectly normal...
