VForce Mufflers are cheaper than Flowmaster and just as good. I had my M1008 done at a muffler shop ($647 for dual pipes and mufflers). The pipes are 2 1/2 inches. The difference in power is very noticeable on hills and the sound is powerful, not too aggressive. I will do the same some day...
These vehicles are retired military. Maybe they didn't make the grade for the modern day mission, but with the right care they will last a long time. I've already been impressed by the heavy duty vehicle parts on my truck. I am sure it will survive longer than me if I have anything to do about it.
Oh..and the county wouldn't let me get permanent tags because it is a 5/4 ton. I told them it was a 1 ton and they would not listen. Next year I am going to park it outside the office and argue a little. Permanent tags would be nice.
EDIT- I've got a heavy duty floor mat for the cab and...
The drive was great. I couldn't find a governor on the truck's speed, but it sure sucked the fuel when I stepped on it. Then the truck was snowed in at my brother's house for a couple of weeks. The batteries couldn't handle the extreme cold and we were not up on CUCV maintenance at the time...
More than most want too pay...I used a muffler shop, the exhaust and mufflers cost me $647. Since this is a dual exhaust system the cost is higher.
What I can say from my experience, is the exhaust is very important for power and climbing hills. Cheaper than a turbo.
I had my transmission serviced today and it did not need it except the military used gasket sealer and now I have a gasket which is better. Stopped down the street and had an oil change.
My brother and I already did the doghead relay mod, license plates with a light and added Optima Batteries...
Some body here went with Stanadyne. I found a dealer two blocks from my house and plan on using them too. They don't like the 6.2 diesel engine because of the Frito-Lay fleet, but I think I just found a new source for parts too. SRM
I got mine done at a muffler shop today. It was kind of pricey, $647, with two exhaust pipes and mufflers. I got the VForce mufflers and 2 1/2 inch pipes. The sound is great and now my transmission shifts at the proper speeds, don't know why as I am changing the fluid and filter soon just to...
So yesterday we finally dug my truck out of the snow and got it to town. I have been wanting to get things started badly. My brother was a big help in all this.
First we installed Optima D31A batteries with the trays to keep them locked down. These are huge batteries that will last a long...
Any competent lock smith can do it with ease and it is not that expensive. Mine has the added benefit of a chain welded to the floor, the Army anti-theft system. I wll be having my ignition and locks changed soon.
We were going to do the doghead starter relay mod and license plate light but it is so cold the truck would not start. The batteries are being charged. We will try again tomorrow. I got the CDR valve in the mail today too.
Then it will be time to study glow plugs.
Air Cleaner/Filter
Any standard filter designated for use in a K5/K30 should work. FRAM# CA3492 (or PRA3492); NAPA# FIL2096 (or 6096); K&N# E-1690 (expensive, but worth it!)I bought the K&N Air Filter. The old filter has some kind of dirt filter around it. Do I reuses this with my new filer?
Well...the company I ordered from says they can no longer get the Cole Hersee so I went to NAPA and bought the last part in town. I tried to buy American so I don't feel bad.
I ordered my parts for the doghead relay mod. I went with the Cole Hersee 24712-S7 doghead listed. I still have to get a rear license plate light. Things are getting better everyday...
