well the old saying if it aint broke don't fix it comes to mind, I can say that when we do have problems most of us can find help here. "thats why were here" I would keep a set of tools tucked away some where metric and standard, the fuel system is metric mostly just about everything...

    Fuel tank sending unit

the third is just a line that pops out right behind the rear cab frame crossmember and points straight down, it has a little rubber boot on the end to plug it off. my guess is to drain the tank!!

YO!! MikeD!! check your glow plugs, If you have a multimeter set it to ohms and put one lead on the tang where the glowplug connector goes and the other lead on the side of the plug "the part the wrench socket goes over" it should read about .8 to 1.6 ohms if the meter doesn't change at all...

Hate to keep posting stupid questions

well my truck has some glow plug connectors that are smaller than the standard civy issue of a 1/4" so when I a set of autolight 1110 <- "I think that was the number" the tang on the glow plug was too big, so I took them back and called up a surplus outlet and they sent me some 13g ac delco...

Hate to keep posting stupid questions

there is a wiring block on the firewall that is 12volt, just trace the 8gauge wire that goes from the negative terminal of the rear batt over to it, there is a fusible link that keeps it in check so it is a good place to add accessories. there are smaller wires that connect to your glowplug...

    My CUCV story!

well if you could swap in a 4l80e (this is a turbo 400 with an overdrive) you would need a computer wired in to make it work, there are some company's that make stand alone computer modules to tell the trany when to shift,"the E in 4l80E stands for electronic" but I am not sure of the cost...

    My CUCV story!

with a three speed auto third gear is a 1 to 1 ratio which means the transmision output roughly matches the engine rpm, (engine @1000 rpm the tranny in third gear will be spinning the driveshaft @1000rpm) the optimal engine rpm for the 6.2 diesel at 60mph should be between 1800 to 2800rpm...

    My CUCV story!

If by 4speed you mean 4sp. auto then yes you can swap in a 4l80e or 700r4, I have often pondered this myself when I got my truck, here what I concluded, the turbo 400 you have in there now is a pretty stout auto used for heavy duty applications, this 3 speed combined with 4.56 diff gears makes...

    CUCV Jack

If you do any kind of off roading then you may want to look into getting a highlift jack I mounted mine at the bottom of the rear cab wall behind the seat, there was alread one hole cutout I guess for the radio or shelter unit

    GLOW PLUG KILLER!!

:skull: I just put 8 new 13g glow plugs in a month ago, "I checked all of them to make sure they were good!" the truck started right up every turn for the first week, after the first week I would have to press the pedal and turn it over a couple of times, then I let it sit for a couple of...

    whoa !! spedo

How did you manage to hook the spedo up without the gearbox?? I pulled mine off and there was a metal shaft through the plastic gear, the end that sticks out of the t-case housing is round with a single spline, this fits into the gearbox and turns the gears, the other end of the gearbox has the...

    TURBO 400 wheezing the juice!!

I've got an 85 m1028 w/ turbo 400 that is leaking fluid onto the front drive shaft and all down the bottom of the tranny, I replaced the vacumme modulator and power washed the trans and tunnel to see if I could find the source of the leak, there are no drips out of the over flow tube. It does...

    whoa !! spedo

I know there is gear adapter that is bolted to the t-case which the spedo cable end screws on. but I'm not sure what the internal parts are supposed to look like, I'm thinking that maybe there is a reduction gear missing from it?? or one got swapped in from a blazer?? It does look like the...

    whoa !! spedo

When I got my m1028 from the military It had the newer type 7digit milage odometer, which read 11,500. I have noticed that even after putting 35" tires on the spedo still reads about 10-15 mph faster than my actual speed, has this happened to anyone else or do you know how I can fix it??
