If you are not afraid to take the trans apart swap out the output shaft. for the swap no special tools needed just a little time and knowhow not a real big deal. just a thought if your up for it some are some are not .
If and when you get to the brake controler the newer ones all tap into the brake light wire at the switch under dash not the brake line like the older ones did you have a black hot 12 volt suply a white ground the blue wire that runs to the trailer brakes threw the 7 pin conector and the...

When you convert to 12 volt then anybody can work on it! its not complicated its complicated becouse of the 24 volt and daul alts thats why nobody will work on them you take that away and they are just a 85 chevy 1 ton truck thats it alot easyer to work on. the millitary spec. made them so most...
The resitor may have gone bad If you want to put if back as it was. I think I I have a good one I convert all mine back to 12 volt less parts to go bad and easyer to fix! I will check and pm you if I have one
Easyest way is to look at battery cables the front battery pos cable if it s conected to the rear batterys ground post then its 24 volt if both batterys are ground to ground then its 12 volt does it still have two alts? only need one if 12 volt the second will be and idler if 12 volt
:ditto: As doghead stated the resistor only controles the glow plugs and just the glow plug relay under the hood the other itams in the cab are still only 12 volts! the only true 24 volt itam on the truck is the starter and the jump slave in the grill. Everything else is still just 12 volt. I...
If you use a turbo you will want an IP from a turbo not the stock 6.2 Ip will work but turbo IP better dif cal. and the electric window parts take about 2 hr. to put in and wire up not real bad job have to change all the inners of the tailgate so as stated if you can get a tailgate with it in...
Yes that itam in question is a resitor the pass side wire out of it should have bee hooked to the top 24 volt junction block on pass side and the driver side wire to the glow plug relay the owner before you just hooked it to the 12 volt factory juntion block no need for the resistor and will...
Just a note you can check the flywheel before you pull it may be fine I would have the starter bendix checked they act like that when they go bad about a 25/30 doller fix and a lot less work !2cents
:ditto: I also removed the military plug installed the 7 pin in same spot and wired with the same wires and then run new wires for break controler about 1 or 2 hour job depends on your skil level and working conditions!!
If your checking vac on the ip bye unpluging 1 vac line at a time then you will only have vac. on one line . 1 is from the vac pump on back of engine and the other goes to the modulater on the trans, only the one coming from vac pump will have vac when running. check lines and then unplug vac...
He is wrong most of the 1/2 ton gms made witch the 1009 is just with haevy duty suspension rating fot the military came with the 10 bolt and 6 lug some cicv had the dana 44 front and 12 bolt rear but ALL had 6 bolt wheels All mil spec 1009s came with the 10bolt axles
I would go over the oil pan bolts and make sure they are all snug NOT tight just snug wipe it down fill the oil and start it let it run and check to see where its from the hole is in the flywheel cover and is a factory hole. Some very good advice above the fuel pump oilpan gasket if it leaks...
A little white smoke is norm on start up if you get alot then I would look into it. when you start to crank the engine and every time a cylinder passes the intake stroke it gets a shot of fuel rather it starts or not so when it does start some or all cylinders will be a little on the rich side...
