Yes I would brace the stock bumper you have to mount the trailer spindle on the outside edge under the tail light in order to open the tail gate and the stock bumper would have a lot of twist there without some sort of brace! Yes bed liner is the ticket pic was before that step.
GM stopped using the 6 bolt converters and all are 3 bolt just did a 6.5 swap in a 4x4 truck and was a 3 bolt check online. I will look and post link to GMs reasons later

You will not have a problem Under ideal circumstances you would want no more then about 190 degrees. There are so many variables that you could see anything from about 160 degrees to 220 degrees and still be within the "safe" zone. trans fluid will take 275 deg heat before starting to break down...
