I'm new to the diesel world with my recently acquired M1010 ambulance. I'm interested in running WMO or WVO. My fuel system is currently stock with the cartridge filter system. I've had the truck for just over two months and drive it about 100 miles a week so far. If I got good at sourcing...
My M1010 uses the civilian-style A/C compressor mount for the A6 compressor. I just found a civie Suburban in a junkyard that had it and it was the exact bracket and compressor that is on my truck. However, the M1010 has both alternators on the passenger side of the engine. I don't know where...
AllenEM - Are you running your tires on stock M1008 wheels? I'm looking for the largest tires I can fit on the skinny stock rims (16"x6.5") on my M1010. How easy did they mount and how do they drive? Thanks.
A/c pics
Here are some pics of the A/C lines and the in-cab unit. The lines just split off at T-intersections and go their separate ways. I know a lot of vans have rear A/C added on so this must be common enough. The cab lines go across the engine and through the firewall under the glove...
I think the M1009 is the best platform to create a real trail vehicle from. You've done exactly what I want to do if I ever end up with a M1009. The axles were the only real weak link in the first place.
I've seen two M1010's now that have had the in-cab A/C unit, but both of them were ex-police. I have no idea how it was when the military had it. Mine has also been converted to 12V. I can take extra pictures of the A/C lines if anyone needs to see it close up.
I plan to insulate the cab so...
A/c now working!
I just got my truck back from my friendly neighborhood repairman and now have cold A/C! I can run it with just the cab evaporator cooling and the condenser fans run on slow speed and when I turn on the box evaporator the condenser fans kick into high speed. Cooled me today...
I checked my GP's this morning when the truck was cold. While the GP's were cycling I read 10.6 V at the top and bottom of the GP relay. I'm assuming the GP's dump a pretty good load on the batteries and that's why I didn't get the 12.7 V I do when nothing is on. The glow plugs cycled a lot...
I was under the impression that all CUCV glow plugs were 12V. There is a resistor in the wiring to step it down from 24V to 12V. Mine doesn't have a resistor on the feed line, which is OK for me since I have a 12V system.
I'll have to search and figure out the ohm checking to see if my plugs...
When I went to fire up my M1010 this morning it was around 70°F and the truck had been parked in the shade. I turned on the ignition and waited for the WAIT light to shut off. It seemed to take forever. I finally got tired of waiting and cranked the engine. Took me three times to get it to...
I second the nomination for Gulches Off Road Park. I just relocated to Anderson, SC, so I live about 30-40 miles from the park. And, since I now have an M1010, I can come play with all of the other MV owners.
I'm starting a new job Monday, but after the new-job jitters go away I could...
The truck drives pretty comfortable. With all of the weight the springs ride real soft, Cadillac style. Right now the handling isn't perfect, especially the brakes (lots of pulsation). The truck accelerates great due to the over-gearing. I'm hoping for a lift and larger tires in the future...
Here are some pics of a M1010 I just picked up as my first MV. I've followed this website a while and finally jumped in with both feet!
This M1010 has been converted to 12V (batteries are wired in parallel) but the box lights and box A/C unit still function. The fuel-fired heater doesn't do...
