The only problems I've had with my M1010 have been normal CUCV issues (glow plug system, steering/handling/death wobble). I did have to put a new A/C compressor on, but it is just the same type as a civi K30 has.
Mine is 12V, so that eliminates most of the electrical issues with the M1010...
The bottom of the knuckle has a bearing.
I just got done stress-testing my M1010. I hit the interstate for the very first time since owning the truck. With my 37's I figured I'd be OK at 65. Well, it does 65 fine, but the engine still sounds like it's dying at interstate speeds. I hit 69...
I only had time for a short run today but I did a few hard brake tests and had ALMOST zero death wobble. My 37's are balanced with antifreeze inside them and I think that sudden stopping messes up the dynamic balancing, making it shake some. You can see my new springs were noticeably taller...
Makincold, did you ever install your D60 bushing/spring kit? I just did mine today and it went pretty easy. I got lucky and both upper spring plates popped up under the spring pressure when I removed the bolts. A lot of people have complained about them being seized up.
Here are some...
Can I find anything bigger than a 5-ton? Maybe an armored truck or a tank or something? After riding around with you I think the trails are too big and we need something harder to maneuver...
Here are a few pictures from Saturday afternoon. I had a lot of fun riding in the night trail run with MAKINCOLD and GHOSTRIDER in their 5 ton!
Now I can say I've seen a Gamma Goat get stuck...
My paint is Rustoleum Professional Satin Black. It was reduced and sprayed with an automotive paint gun. It was painted outside, so it only turned out OK. If painted inside it would have turned out a lot better. Touch-up, however, is really easy with a spray can!
bpcole - Are you running...
I'm bringing a full set of 235/85R16 Goodyear Wrangler SRA's mounted on m1008 wheels (great tread), a pair of 33x12.5R16.5 Mud Terrains, and a few small bits.
I'll be there Saturday morning. I hope CARNAC still has some shackles left!
I'm planning on coming down in the morning. If all goes well I'll be there an hour or two after daylight (coming from Anderson, SC). This is my first rally! Looking forward to meeting some of you!
I've been fighting vibration on my 37's. I'm running RV antifreeze (12oz each) inside them as an effort to balance them, but it doesn't seem to make much difference.
All my spring bushings and probably kingpin bushings are shot. I'm hoping that fixing these things will help me lower the...
37's can fit with no lift
I'm so happy I was linked to this thread! I'm in the "crazy" crowd, because I fit 37's with no lift and have no rubbing issues.
Of course, I did trim my fenders generously. The inner wheelwells are still there, however. I did have the drag-link issue that was...
Owens Corning makes a fiberglass armor called Shieldstrand. I've seen a test block that stopped a .50 caliber. It was about an inch thick. A smaller thickness would be lighter and able to handle small arms fire. It's in use by the military now in some applications (do a google search if...
I had a similar problem on mine. The wait light would stay on too long and it was really hard to start cold. I replaced the relay/module thingy on the firewall and the glow plugs now only run a few seconds before the light goes out. Fires up really good on the first try now. They are not...
Spacers for what? The wheels? These are aluminum wheels, NOT hmmwv wheels. They have 4.5" backspacing, so no spacers needed.
No spring spacers or anything like that. Suspension is at stock height. I think a 2" lift is all I would need if I wanted to really off-road it. For street driving...
I wouldn't worry much about lifting your truck unless you plan to do some real off-roading. For storm chasing and street driving I'd keep it as low as possible. I have 37's on mine with no lift and no rubbing issues (major fender trim, though). I know somebody on here ran some skinny 38's...
Both front and rear fenders had to be trimmed a fair amount. I went about as far as you can go without losing the inner fenders (wheelwells). I also pinched the lips on the upper fender lip to give the tires room to move up into the wheelwell without catching. Unfortunately, the fender looks...
Here are some pictures of my M1010 sitting on 37's. I've been driving it (mostly street) for about 2 months on the hummer tires. I had to trim the fenders decently to make it work without any lift, but I was able to keep the inner fenderwells. I also had to adjust the steering stop so that my...
My truck is also equipped with the extra cold weather fuel heater system (look at picture). I don't know if it is currently working or not, but would it be easy to keep if I go the spin-on route? I currently live in SC, but I'll be moving in a year and don't know where I'll end up. Cold...
