I had at least one fusible link melt down on me when I was changing an alternator belt on my M1028. I'm trying to get it back on the road so I can make the rally.
I didn't disconnect the batteries because I wasn't touching the wiring, just changing a belt. When I pushed the passenger side...
I need some fiberglass slats (like from a deuce troop seats or bed rails) so I can finish rebuilding my troop seats. I also need the CUCV bed snap rail for the bed cover. I already have the cover and bows, but I need the snap rail that mounts to the top of the bed rail.
Well, this scares me. I just installed the Airtex pump on my M1028 as well, but it's only been on there a week. I still have the mechanical pump as well, so they're both pushing fuel when the truck is running. I tested the make sure the truck would still run with the Airtex turned off, and it...
I also prefer the September dates. It will probably just be Friday and Saturday for me. I had a line on a M931 but it looks like I'll just be beating up my poor M1028 some more.
First Pics IN!
Here are a few pictures. The campsite pic was taken Thursday, so it looks a little spartan. There is no wi-fi and not even decent cell service at Haspin so you probably won't see many pics until people get home. I have several videos but I might have to put them up on...
BFG Tires and fuel drum w/ pump
I have a set of 315/75R16 BFG All Terrains (approx 35 x 12.50 r 16) mounted on aluminum 8-lug wheels. I had them on my M1028 for a while and the backspacing on the wheels was good. The tires have a decent amount of dry-rot cracking but have great tread and all...
When I trimmed the rear of the front fenders on my M1010 I cut the inner wheel wells and bent them back with the same line of the out fenders. It was kind of a pain, but if I ever do it again I think I can make the trim look a lot better.
Fenders are a dime a dozen so it's not really a big...
zero rate / ez inch spaced forward
I used DIY4x's EZ-inch (same thing as zero rate) on the front of my stock M1028. I reused the stock plates with the aforementioned hole drilling (I set my axle forward 1"). My stock driveshaft is fine, even during full flex wheeling situations.
I cut my...
I can't afford to "restore" anything and don't really own anything that is "stock".
My M1028 was the cheapest way to buy a truck that didn't need many upgrades to go wheeling. To date the only mods I've done are to lift the front 1" with DIY4x's EZ-inch to space the front axle for my 9.00-16...
Makincold did very well through Georgia mud / clay with his single Michelin's aired down. 40 psi in the front and 30 psi for the rears. I think the rears could have been aired down a little more, but the "bulge" on the front tires was perfect. Crazy traction.
Airing down not only increases...
I don't have the gates (which I just found out the bows attach to), so I guess I need the whole thing. I don't have the M101A3 yet, but I will be picking it up from Makincold either before or during the GA rally, and I would love to have the whole tarp / bow / gate set. Right now it's just a...
Does anyone have a tarp & bows that would work on a M1028 or M101 trailer? (I'm not sure if they are the same or not). I may be interested in 2 sets if the price is affordable enough.
Thanks.
I have a tiny lift as well. This is my 1028 with 1" ez-inch up front (same thing as zero-rate) moving the front axle forward 1" and lift 1". The tires are 9.00-16 STA superlugs on stock wheels. Rear is stock.
I trimmed the front of the fenders a little, but the back of the front fenders are...
It's pretty easy to tell if the hubs are engaging properly if you test with the front end on jack stands. Leave it in 2wd and just spin the tires both locked and free and look for the difference. Sometimes hubs need greased and worked back and forth a bit to get them in good shape.
Locked =...
I didn't make it either. My wife was sick all morning, so I was on kiddie duty until the afternoon. I had to finish up my EZ-inch install (same thing as zero rate) on the front of my truck and then get my new set of STA Superlugs installed. I decided getting that done was more important than...
I'm not sure which area to post this in, but there is a mud bog at the Calhoun Creek Offroad complex in Abbeville, SC on 3/24/2012.
1689 Hwy 71,
Abbeville, SC
Starts at 2pm, $5 spectator fee (see attached flyer).
I'm thinking I'll take my M1028 down and maybe play around a bit (cost is $20 if...
