    new locking door handles installed

I ordered and installed a set. At first I checked my local hardware store and found some that I thought might work, but I couldn't get matching keys and don't have a lot of free time for trial and error mods. So, I'm one of those that was willing to pay the big bucks just so I didn't have to...

    front wheel drive questions

That does make sense, I just had it in my head that an air line went to the front axle somewhere. I can't feel a difference in steering in AWD vs normal so it looks like I will be jacking up the front end to find out. Thanks for clarifying.

    front wheel drive questions

I thought it wouldn't turn if the front axle was not engaged. Otherwise, what's the purpose of the automatic front axle engagement in low range? What is that switch, or the in-cab switch actually engaging?

    front wheel drive questions

My truck was in high range without the front switch activated and the front axle was spinning. So, I guess this means I have a transfer case that is stuck in AWD mode. Now I need to figure out what air lines do what so I can fix it.

    front wheel drive questions

I just tested my m932 to see if the front axle is engaged. I used the video camera on my phone and put it on the front drivers side leaf spring looking directly at the front yoke of the driveshaft. I hit "record" then jumped in the truck and idled forward then parked and shut off phone cam.

New Owner, M923a1, Need some direction

O-Reilly's has 10w oil. It's called ND-10, and I guess the ND is non-detergent oil. Not cheap though, at $4 per quart. If your going to run DexIII then I guess this doesn't matter...

Finding year for M939A2 trucks for SF97

I confirmed the VIN on the frame rail. It was just behind the driver side front tire. It was actually very easy to read, not painted over too thick. I didn't see anything anywhere about the year of the truck, but I'm just going to go with the GL description of 1991 and call it good. I now...

Finding year for M939A2 trucks for SF97

Just found paperwork confirming my trucks rebuild. It was rebuilt at Camp Shelby, MS in October 2011 then shipped to Indy. It even had warranty paperwork! Sweet!

Finding year for M939A2 trucks for SF97

Thanks for the help. Where is the VIN on the frame? I want to double check that and make sure if matches my data plate before I fill out my SF-97.

Finding year for M939A2 trucks for SF97

My M932A2 doesn't have the delivery date on the serial number tag. Is there anything on the frame somewhere that will tell me the year? The GL posting listed it as a 1991, but I can't find anything to back it up. The older the better for me, as it gets me closer to having antique plates (once...

M932 Pickup from Indianapolis. Could use advice!

The only issues I had were a coolant leak from the heater core and an oil leak from overfilling the power steering reservoir. I've temporarily repaired the coolant leak by shutting off the valves that go to the heater core and the power steering thing should work itself out. Time to go read...

    front wheel drive questions

In the thread about removing the washer off the linkage for low range auto-front-axle-engage it talks about jacking up one of the front tires and rotating it by hand. If the front driveshaft turns when you turn the wheel, then it is locked in. If the wheel turns but the driveshaft doesn't...

M932 Pickup from Indianapolis. Could use advice!

Bob actually called me back last night and said he would be happy to help. Super nice guy! I've got all my gear together and with Bob on board I think I'm in great shape for the recovery. Thank you all for your help. I'm excited to move into the 5-ton world!

M932 Pickup from Indianapolis. Could use advice!

What is his SS name? Should I call him now or just if I get in a pickle (just tried calling, he didn't answer but I can try again)?

M932 Pickup from Indianapolis. Could use advice!

All I did was get insurance like I normally do for any vehicle. My insurer (State Farm) only asks for make, model, year, and mileage. Although my local agent had to call i for help figuring out how to insure a 5 ton. The insurance was done through their commercial department, so I think...

M932 Pickup from Indianapolis. Could use advice!

Aren't you supposed to have them memorized before you touch a MV? Anyway, I have insurance now. Costing me $285 for six months for full coverage (through State Farm). Is it sad that this is the only vehicle I have full coverage on? Everything else is just liability insurance... I know you...

M932 Pickup from Indianapolis. Could use advice!

The TM calls it a half-coupling :) Semantics... I've driven a tractor-trailer before, but it has been over 10 years, and it wasn't over-the-road. I worked at Caterpillar and used a yard truck to back trailers into loading areas (flatbeds, vans, containers). Loved it, but I make more $$$...
