Wait to drive - how long ?

If the engine is warm start it up and go. If it's cold I wait till the hi idle kicks down. This will depend on the outside temp. if it's down below freezing it will take several minutes. Normally i'll start it up and go back inside and have a coffee. I only work 1.3 miles from home so I don't...

    Removing the TH400

You'll be ok, just be careful. With a tranny jack it should be relatively easy. Going back in make sure that the torque converter fingers are located into the front pump. I used a chain hooked to the crossmember and anchored to the front end with loadbinders to pull it back into position...

    Removing the TH400

A floor jack will hold it on the cross member, it will be a little front heavy, if soldier B is available you should be OK, if alone it will be alittle harder. I used a fork lift with 6' extensions on a gravel lot.

    Removing the TH400

Plenty of room to take it out with th TC attached. The bell housing also has two locating bosses that will keep it from dropping straight down. You will have to wiggle it back an inch or so.

transmissions slips until warmed up. How to replace?

I have had mine out twice with the TC attached. I put the front tires on cement blocks and used a fork lift with 6' extensions. Had the assy on a pallet and slide it out. Plenty of room. Mine hesitates when cold but after a few miles shifts fine. You could put the TC in neutral and the...

    rebuild heads or new motor?

I replaced one head with a new one, original was cracked, and had the other resurfaced and valves inspected and recut or replaced as needed, tear down was 2-3 hrs and reassembly about 6-7 in 30 degree weather. I had never done one prior to. With the TM's handy it's a relatively easy job.
